My Memory Doesn"t Fit!!!!!!!!

This may be somewhat of an over reaction, but my memory will not go all the way into its DIMM. I have the EPoX ep-8K7A and 1x256 crucial cas 2.5 memory. I slide it into its little slot and it stops a couple mm short of being locked into place. I have been putting a lot of pressure on it (I think) but how much should I put on? Hope somebody will help me out. Thanks.

DIMMS require a bit more pressure then any other component.

Just push evenly down the entire stick. It should sit correctly. Just don't break it

There is an indentation that has to fit right...make sure that is lined up on the dimm and the slot.

The memory is keyed. Make sure you don't have it end for end.

This happened to me a few days ago when I built my first system. I had everything perfectly setup, but just couldn't see why it would take so much pressure to press down the dang thing. Here's what I did. Put your motherboard down ontop of that little padding that came with the mobo, and place it on a flat table top surface. Now, go ahead and apply pressure straight down on the DIMM with both thumbs about an inch in from each corner and it'll just sink in fine. You do need a nice amount of pressure, so that's the reason for the sturdy flat surface. I think I saw somewhere around 12-24 pounds of pressure.

Well he is using DDR, which only has 1 slot. SDRAM is much easier for a novice to tell "which way is which". Heck, the first time I used DDR it took me a minute to figure out how it was keyed (it looked exactly in the middle to me for some odd reason).

Use the eraser tip of a non-sharp(new) #2 pensil instead of your thumb, you can apply alot more pressure without feeling you're going to brake the stick.

Try pushing it in as far as it will go, then clipping the little tabs the rest of the way and let them pull the memory down into the slot. Always works for me.

i disagree
heatsink/fans are hard as hell to put on (you practically have to push hard enough to break your mobo to put them on)

Definitely put the MB on a flat, sturdy surface if you must apply a lot of pressure, since you could (in thoery) snap the motherboard if it doesn't have standoff's in the right spots.

Heatsinks you use screwdrivers to finagle around.

DIMMS are bare hands, so DIMMS have more direct pressure.

dimm probably takes less pressure, but the heatsinks have been easier, IMHO. pressing on the dimm i feel like i'm going to snap it in half or something

I heard a quote that Xeons require somewhere in the range of 145lbs of pressure to insert properly. I would not dream of doing that to a dimm.
