Hello,

I finally got my Custom Face Plate from G2TI at the Sudhian Forums.

Here are some pics of the finished product.

:camera:

I had to do some work on the Eject button but in the end it came out perfect. The scratches on the faceplate I guess I could buff out somehow.

buffing will make it worse .... wire polish it ... make sure the wheel is thin gauge wire though or you'll rip off way too much

Wouldn't steel wool make it 10 times worse? I've honestly never tried it on a system case, but I've seen the mess that steel wool can make on the finish of my pots and pans.

ok.

I'll go down to the local walmart and see what they have in terms of metal polisher.

the finest steel wool grade would probably not make it worse, i've used steel wool, 3 grades from teh most gentle and it polished copper i had to a really nice finish, probably better than i could've gotten with super fine sand paper, but its cheap, like $1.50 for a pack of 4, you can always test it on something similiar.

D@mn cool looking! I have a SK41G as well. I took out the paper in front and left it bare. I am not sure what to do with the front bezel, any ideas?

Well the easiest mod is to print a custom backing. Here's mine:

Here are some good pictures of XPC's with custom clear faceplates. They can only be used with slot loading cdrom/dvdroms

First I took off the front bezel of the drive. Then I removed all of the fins on the metal back of the face plate by using pliers and bending them back and forth. You should have a flat piece of metal when you're done. I used velco to attach the metal piece to the tray on the drive. Other people have used double sided foam tape, but supposedly it doesn't work as well. The metal should be firmly attached to the drive now, so make sure the tray can open and close. I was lucky, the screws fit perfectly w/ the drive closed, but some people have to shave off the ends for it to fit.

If you don't want to have to software eject all the time, just put some padding on the drive's original eject button and you should be able to press gently on the faceplate and trigger the button.
