I just put together my new p4 1.8A + Abit BG7 box, and I'm having some problems with my fax modem. I've tried TWO different modems, one Zoom hardware PCI modem and one external Creative modem that connects to the serial port. Both of them are giving me problems: They seem to work ok for the first few minutes or so, but after a while things start slowing down. Like if I'm downloading something, there will be a transfer for about ten seconds, and then it will just stop for ten seconds. And then it will transfer for a while, and then stop for a while, etc etc. After 30 minutes everything stops and I can't download anything, though I stay connected. And when I try to disconnect the modem won't do it immediatly, it will wait maybe 30 seconds and then disconnect. The problem isn't my line or my ISP, my old computer had an old but good 28.8 ISA modem that would stay connected all day with no problem at all. I just wish my BG7 has an ISA slot...
So what do you all think?? Are these two modems crap?? Can anyone suggest a good modem to buy?? Or maybe there's some software/hardware problem I should check for?? Something set wrong in BIOS maybe?? I'm running Win2000 if it matters.
