1st off, can I ask what was the point of starting this thread in the first place?

2ndly, smoking is just stupid IMHO (and apparently lots of others opinions too) and yes the ONLY REASON PEOPLE START is to look cool. There is no other reason with todays knowledge for anyone to start besides peer pressure and/or image . You certainly have the "right" to smoke if you want, but do it a) in public, and b) if I see you throw a butt on the ground, I will pick it up and put it out on your arm.

Wow.

Here I am, 33, smoked since I was 14, wearing a fscking patch to try to quit. And I still occasionally go out of my mind (been doing this for over a month now..).

Those occasions get less and less, if my wife helps out and doesn't start fights on the phone (just had one).

Caitlion: Here's an image I want you to get in your head:

Picture the old man you saw at the store last week/month/whatever. He looked like flushed sh!t. When you got closer, he stunk like stale smoke and farts. You saw him go out to his car and it was a simple older car, but had what appeared to be brown liquid dripping down the windows. That's tar smoke that builds up in the car.

Now imagine the damage that crap is doing to your lungs.

Now imagine that being YOUR HUSBAND when you're old.

Now imagine what YOU will look like and smell like if you smoke.

Every time you think about getting a smoke, think about that. Because quitting is fscking HARD.

One thing the ladies should consider (especially if you like your man to uhhh, "eat at the Y") is that the mouth isn't the only orifice to take on an ashtray-like quality when smoking.

I'm told it doesn't affect every woman, but I speak from experience.

I've heard horror stories, but every female's body is different. I'm quite happy with Desogen... much moreso than Ortho Tri-Cyclen.

I can see how it would annoy you.. But the fact is, being a parent, it's all about looking for their kids' best interest.

Let's put it like this, I have tried 4 or 5 different Pills and my body just got immune to them or something. I've researched all of my available options to treat polycystic ovarian, and after much debate I said, "Screw it, I can at least try one cycle (3 months) and if I don't like it then I can try something else." I've heard all the horror stories. But you know what, I tried it and it has proven to be a godsend. I won't go into further details but feel free to PM me for info if you want!

AKA: Attention? Bragging? I still dont get it. Should I make a post about my debt and then be made when people tell me it was my fault, and do I really need that house etc etc... I just simply do not undertand these types of threads and what people are looking for.

100 of those replies have been about birth control too

If that's not irony, I don't know what is.

I figured the irony of it being phillip morris counted for something...I mean, they waited as long as they could (I presume) before putting warning labels on the packages... these studies were so "inconclusive" they decided to accept them blindly? c'mon.

I'm done

where the hell are you quoting "inconclusive" from? Phillip Morris probably threw that up on their webpage just to avoid another future onslaught of lawsuits. They do not provide any statistical evidence or information on how the study was conducted, how large the sample, etc.

Won't do it for me.

Your name now makes perfect sense.

not yet at least.. if you're not going to take it from your mom, take it from all the ex-smokers, smokers, and nonsmokers on this board.. you're better off NOT smoking...
why else did you come here with this issue? to get reassurance that you're right and your mother is wrong?

I've heard good things about Ortho Tri-Cyclen, that's why my gf picked it. What ill effects has it had on you or people you know?

Anyone who STARTS smoking now is fvcking idiot.

Have you ever noticed that some of the nicest-looking women smoke? They don't seem to buy cartons of cigs, but buy a pack at a time - kind of a vanity thing.

Just the other day, I was at the service station getting my oil changed. I was waiting in the convenience store. A nice-looking blonde came in to buy some juice and then said: "Today, I think I'll take a pack of Pall-Mall." Die hard smokers are usually glued to one brand. Here's a person who's "trying" out different cigarettes? WTF ??!!??

:Q I hope she got the kind with filters.

I can't believe this thread is still going on.

im not on it anymore, but while i was it was wonderful. its very effective, you only have to get a shot every 3 months, and you hardly ever (if at all) get your period. its also safe for smokers jk. but yeah, its good.

Gee, anyone refute the IARC yet?

Or any of the other few dozen studies that have been conducted after the famous 1992 EPA "study"?

Hell, just blow some smoke at an asthmatic and tell me it has no effect.

Or ask her.

- M4H

i know a few people with asthma (sp?) that smoke.

ahhh those are the dumbasses that I often end up treating in the ICU.

I've tried to quit 17 times now, it never stayed... I regret almost every day having my first cigarette. If it's not too late, stop smoking. I'm currently trying to save up the $1000 for the pill that lets you quit cold turkey (I forget the name at the moment). Insurance does not cover this pill. Insurance does not cover this, nor did it cover all the other assorted patches and herbal pills I've spent money on over the years.

Another testament to the fact that cigarettes are a lot more addictive than many illicit drugs.

The medication you're probably thinking of is Zyban. It's also the same drug as Wellbutrin, which is used to treat depression. Dosages are basically the same. So let's say that you're feeling depressed...and you want to quit smoking also. Wellbutrin should be prescribed to you. Get my drift?

Along the same lines, I've often wanted to do a study of the pollution all the cigarette butts create every day/month/year. My biggest pet peeve is the fact taht 95% of smokers think that its ok to simply toss their butt on the ground our out of their car window when they are done... WTF is with that? Its as blatant a form of litterring as throwin a soda can or a freakign cheeseburger wrapper on the ground... let alone I hardly think those filters are goin anywhere anytime soon.

Does ANYONE have any data on the amount of solid garbage/waste that is produced by these things? I cant find any anywhere and, while small and seemingly insignificant, Id have to image due to the isnaely large volume and general improper disposal of them, they have to be adding up.

Edit: Google is my friend. Actually lots of hits, most dead though... regardless
