Gee, anyone refute the IARC yet?

Or any of the other few dozen studies that have been conducted after the famous 1992 EPA "study"?

Hell, just blow some smoke at an asthmatic and tell me it has no effect.

Or ask her.

i know a few people with asthma (sp?) that smoke.

So you're saying they're mentally challenged just like you ?

After a five-day meeting in Lyons, France, this week, they suggested non-smokers who are exposed to second-hand smoke are between 20% and 30% more likely to develop lung cancer.

What no raw numbers? Speaking in percentages easily flaws the study. I'd like to see xxx people will be more likely to do, because one of the original criticisms of the EPA study was that it said a 20% increase, which was actually 2.5 more people out of 10,000 which is statistically insignificant.

catlion... I am a smoker too.

I've tried to quit 17 times now, it never stayed... I regret almost every day having my first cigarette. If it's not too late, stop smoking. I'm currently trying to save up the $1000 for the pill that lets you quit cold turkey (I forget the name at the moment). Insurance does not cover this pill. Insurance does not cover this, nor did it cover all the other assorted patches and herbal pills I've spent money on over the years.

You're still living with your parents, that means that you haven't (hopefully) been smoking for too long, and you still have a choice. I hope you make the right choice that I did not make.

The thing that makes me sad is that someone gave me this exact same speech back when I was younger. I brushed them off and said "I'll quit anytime I feel like it, when I'm ready." I thought I was invincible and kept smoking. I'm almost certain this won't help you, as I'm just an anonymous person over the internet. Noone believes anything that people say on the internet, but I'm at least trying. I hope you make the decision I didn't make back when I had a chance.

Boy, they're just shining gems of intelligence there. Glad I'm not paying my taxes for their healthcare. Inhaler in one hand, cigarette in the other. Hint - toss one of them away and you won't need the other as often.

Conclusions Passive smoking substantially reduced CFVR in healthy nonsmokers. This finding provides direct evidence that passive smoking may cause endothelial dysfunction of the coronary circulation in nonsmokers.

Also, the judge that vacated the EPA report is in North Carolina...a big tobacco state. Hmmmm.

He's a FEDERAL judge. He's not elected, he's got no political reason to vacate it. Care to try again? Are you suggesting that the Federal Judge was bribed?

Plus, that BBC article is misleading at best. It says that 20-30% increase(without giving raw numbers) but that's not what the IARC report said. The IARC report was talking about spousal secondhand exposure and not public exposure. Secondly, even in a tight workplace environment the percentage was 16-19%, but once again no data is given on the actual raw numbers, and what their control was. I've searched the IARC site, but there is nothing that lists raw data. But like I already said. IARC is closely related to WHO, and the WHO study was shown to be very biased and unworthy of scientific recognition.

Oh...there's no lobbying during the appointment process. All of politics are completely benign.

I don't see why you post these stuff, if you can't take publich criticism.
You posted in a public forum, you're open to public criticism.
If you can't handle it, stop posting.

1) Yes, but unlike smoking, there have been proven health benefits to occasional consumption of wine.
2) I eat fast food maybe once a month and rarely drink pop.
3) Yes, and probably better than you do.
