my monitor is making me sick!

so i just got a 19" Viewsonic P95f+ with a clear flat screen and after 1 1/2 hr it is making me sick. Gave me a headache and queezy stomach. This is new for me as not much makes me feel sick (love roller coasters).

It is set to 85MHz refresh rate. Is there anything else that might make this happen?. One thing I've notice is that it almost looks concave meaning the center looks farther away then the sides. I tried messing with the settings but don't see anything.

Is there a doctor in the house!

My immediate question to this is whether or not the screen shakes. Does it shake, shudder, or in any way NOT stay still? Your eyes can get strained badly if it is, but either way you shouldn't stare at a CRT for an hour and a half. I would say to start taking breaks from the screen more often (even if it means just turning your chair and looking around) and see what happens. If your stomach is getting queezy, then it must be shaking.

Also, from what I hear, the P95f+ is not a good monitor to begin with. I had this 6 year-old monitor near a loaded-up powerstrip and it shuddered slightly to where some people couldn't see it. However, I could and those that still couldn't notice it still had intense eyestrain after only 30 minutes of usage and more usage caused massive headaches. I would say to check and see if there's any sort of big power source near the monitor, or if the power coming to the outlet is low. I hope that helps!

P.S.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the P95F+. One of the biggest pieces of crap on the market right now.

Going out on a limb here, but have you tried lowering the refresh rate to 75Hz or below? I had a P95F+B and it would be ever so slightly blurry when I went above 75Hz. I had it repaired twice, then replaced twice. Every time I got it back or got a replacement it had the same problem. Eventually Viewsonic sent me a G810 21" to compensate me for the months of hassle I went through with that P95F+B.

I know a lot of people realy like the P95F+B and have been using them for years, but I seriously think that something has changed at Viewsonic lately. Cheaper labour, cheaper parts, I don't know, but something has changed. There is no way the three seperate P95F+B's that I had would ever get a good review. They were all garbage and I highly doubt that I just happened to get three bad ones either.

Yes it does matter! Was he playing a First person shooter or was he using Office?

Many, many people get sick while playing 3d games and it may only show when they move to a new monitor.

Also, as has been said, Viewsonic is on my list of CRT monitors NOT to even consider buying.

Yeah, a lot of people get sick when playing games. Has to do with the motion on the screen and the lack of inner ear movement because you're not actually moving with the action that you're seeing. What monitor did you have prior to this one? I would be willing to bet it was smaller.

I was just surfing. No games or anything. This is so wierd. I still feel sick 4 hours later. Maybe it was one of those bugs that hits all of a sudden (as soon as i pluged the monitor in?). Well, i'll try turning the refresh rate down and see what happens (probably not till tomorrow b/c i'm at home now.

I hadn't heard that monitor was bad. I should have researched it more carefully. for $240 you think it would be a nice monitor.

oh yeah, the screen doesn't seem to shake or anything. In fact the picture is very clear and sharp. It is just the effect it has on my eyes.

Lower the brightness and gamma.
Then get a radiation filtration screen attachment, which stops the invisible fumes and harmfull radiation from hitting your brain. It works, but dont get a cheap one.

Verify that your monitor is actually refreshing at 85Hz.

A few years ago, I had a Hercules GeForce2MX video card that would not allow me to change refresh rates (eg: under Windows' display properties, selecting 85Hz would not actually change the refresh rate of my monitor... I would select the "info" button on a Sony E200 and the monitor showed a refresh rate of 60Hz). I RMAed the video card and the replacement GeForce2MX allowed me to change the refresh rate.

i don't want to pay $250 and then have to do that...its almost time to RMA. It might as well be broken as far as I'm concerned.

The same thing happened to me occasionally, I just bought a new (and better) monitor and all was solved.

Going from the old "fishbowl type" to the latest flat screen does take time for your eyes to adjust to the new screen, also is there any slight smell coming from the monitor? I was wondering if it could be that.

I'll try it out again in the morning and see if it does the same thing. I didn't notice a smell or anything though.

hi

i'm also a victim of geting "sick" from my monitor. in my case its migranes often accompanied by nausea.

i have to say the vast majority of my monito related health problems seem to have dissapeared after i switched to an LCD.

i bought a freagin 21" one. yea i know the price on those, i paid it, but there is no amount of money worth my health and this really helped the difference is as plain as night and day. i love it and i cant believe i havent gotten rid of my old CRT sooner.

it might be a bad design, i bought a kds monitor and when i used it i started feeling the same symptoms hte next day i returned it and i bought a next one for twice the price (pf775 Pro) never a dull moment, my problems were solved, however i would suggest for you to buy a LCD, at least u wouldn't have to worry about buying glasses if you use the pc alot.

I just contacted dell to RMA it. It still does it and I've only used it for 10 min. Anyone RMA'd stuff to dell before? Is it an easy or hard process. I couldn't find a number to talk to a real person so I had to send a request for them to contact me explaining the problem. Hopefully they will get back to me soon.

Gage8, try changing the video card you are using. I tried using 2 different LCD screens with my computer at work once and they both made me sick after looking at it for 30 seconds. Then I changed the video card in my computer and the problem dissapeared.
