well to answer your question, china is a very different culture fomr america and many 1st gen chinese americans ahave parents that abide to the chinese customs while they abide by us customs and society. the gap is huge and many things chinese americans expect to do and is accepted by their parents.
For example, my parents didnt think i shoul have a girlfriend until I finished college. Naturally, i had to go behind their backs to date in middle/high school.
While I dont hate my parents, I can see why many would due to the cultural split.

I'm chinese and I'll move the hell out by the end of the year. I just got my masters in late May and I'm finalizing job offers now.

I would also like to add that my parents have not contributed any money towards my college and graduate education. I live at home rent free because I help my dad with his business 3 days a week and I do stuff around the house like all the yard work, make calls, and translate documents.

You give Chinese people a bad name. I'm ashamed to even be ethinically associated with people like you. Ever consider why she came over here to the States? Maybe so you can get a good education and learn English. It would've been a hell of a lot easier to stay in China/Tawian (wherever). No, she brought you over here, gave you an education just to have you insult her on the internet. Maybe she is stupid, giving birth to a little shi!t like you.

You have a Master's in "Strategy" but you couldn't strategize how to make your mother understand?

My degree didn't keep my ass at home rent free during my time in school. It was the fact that while I was in school I help my dad with his business 2 days a week and I do stuff around the house like all the yard work, make calls, and translate documents.

Now that could have been a typo up there... But my guess is that the "helping" that happened here was as little as the OP could get away with. I can almost picture OP stomping his feet crying "Daaaaaaaaad... do I have to???"

BTW... Just in case you didn't get the point from the other hundred or so others who posted here... You're an ass for talking to your mom like that.

No that was not a typo.

I help my dad 3 days a week now that I am out of school and I worked for him 2 days a week while I was in school.

Sorry for the late replies, but I didn;t think people would kick this thread up in the morning. I had to run to the post office and do some other stuff, so I did not get to take a look at this thread until now.

I also saw PlatinumGold's thread http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=38&threadid=1672980&enterthread=y

and if he had bothered to read the thread I proved why the word "dumb" can be used.

you're lucky they aren't charging you rent. They put a roof over your head and you call her the dumbest person alive?

I believe my father would have torn me a new one if I EVER said something like that.

Oh well, one day she'll be dead and maybe then you'll realize what she did for you and suffer the remorse and regret of 10,000 tortured souls.

If I thought about it enough I could come up with something, but I was being harassed for an answer on the spot and the best I could come up with is 1.5% is $1.50 for every $100.

and I know she can do simple math such as multiplication.

No merit in your arguement. My mother's father owned a small chain of dry cleaners in Hong Kong but sold out a few years back. My father's father has been here since the 50's and they have been running the business since the late 50's. My mother only came over because she maried my father.

so I would have been educated regardless of whether or not my mother came over to the states.

they're lucky I don't send them a bill. A room in my area only runs about $450 a month.

My mom doesn't put the roof over my head, my dad does.

Well, to say the least, you are an ignorant smart a$$...

I was a C-sec baby... and I know few friends who had to have their babies via C-section, and it's not the easiest to recover from you dingbag! You think C-section is easier than regular birth!?!!

If all that education taught you this much, it was wasted. And fyi, my parents (Korean) didn't support me financially thru grad school either, but I have no problem in that. My mom, though not the easiest person to talk with, has taught me more than I can count. You do realize that it was your mom that raised you the most in your childhood, right? My father was too busy most of the time, so I attribute my job (rocket scientist) to my mom. You ungrateful representation of an Asian-American.

Drop by Houston sometime... and I will send you to the moon. 1-way ticket.

And my last point... just wait till you become a parent. I am now a proud father of two and I appreciate even more of what my parents (and esp. my mom) did for me. Where will you be working and what is your full name? So I can warn my friends aroudn the country to avoid you and your prospective company! Sheesh...

dumb enough to give birth to you, you ungrateful fvck.

I was born through a cesarean section (classic cut) my mom showed me the scar when I was little. (I'm serious)

so that takes the wind out of your arguement.
So having a cesarean section is not giving birth?

I think you made a mistake.... your mother isn't the dumbest person alive...

well, traditionally birth is a term used for natural birth and a a c-section is a c-section.

I was trying to make a point that I was not really born, but extracted.
I guess that is not much of an arguement anyway.

My own IQ just dropped 80 points after reading this.

lol.

My parents didn't pay for my undergrad either. Also my mom used to work all the time when I was in grade school and stopped working when I was in high school. So she actually didn't teach me much of anything.

I wasn't exactly referring to your school years... I was referring to your toddler/infant years! My mom worked as well... she actually went to college when I was in elementary school... and was a nurse when I was in high school. And when I refer to "teaching me", I don't imply anything of academic necessarily... but to raise you and teach you to be a human!
