Is it cleaned? What's your computers memory running at? If it's at 200Mhz now that's probably causing your mouse problems.

Yeah those mice were pretty much defective. I owned one, and if you search around, lots of people's older intellimouses did the same thing. Does the light goe out? Mine did that, then one day the light stopped coming on. So it ended up in the trash, and I bought my logitech.

Actually, they can get dirty. I've had lint get under the optics before and cause sticking.. maybe that's it?

I think there might be some way to get a new one for free from M$ if your old one is a goner. Search around Hot Deals.

And yes, it sounds like the mouse is biting the dust. I had a mouse die on me once, and it sounds like what you're getting.

A while back (a year ago?) this was a big issue.

I had one of the original MS Intillimouse Explorers, which had a very high liklihood of the cord breaking right at the entrance to the mouse enclosure. The loose connection made the mouse "freeze" a lot. I think M$ has improved the design since then, but I'm sure they still have problems.

I know the original IM Explorers had 5 year warranties, so the company was obligated to send out replacements without being a pain in the ass about it. I doubt they still put that nice of a warranty on the mice, but you still can probably get M$ to replace it.

There is (was) a website somewhere on microsoft.com that lets you report problems with your hardware device. I just said what prblems I was having, they had me do a few tests, several of which it sounds like you've done, and then they sent me out a new one within a week of my first message.

Oh, and after getting my replacement, I opened up the defective mouse, rearranged the cord, and it works as good as new, so it turned out to be 2 for 1 .

You hit it right on the head, the cord connecting mouse is almost falling out
