Blame game starts.. so my nephew's older brother (13) is actually pretty good kid, he gets 90-95 on all his classes, doesn't complain, do as he's told. The dad is already blaming him for not watching his brother. The parents always favor the younger brother and now i feel like he's gonna catch some crap for this.

Apparently the bleeding is so bad, the eye is swollen pretty bad, like the eyes are popping out (translation from grandma)

How cruel and heartless, a 10 year old, your nephew no less is seriously injured, could even die, and you mock him. Cruel and heartless.

Holy shit that made me LOL so hard.

OP, I used to do the craziest shit on bikes between the ages of 7 - 13. I'm frankly surprised I'm still alive. Thought I broke my leg once and my mother was all "You look fine. Get back outside, I'm cleaning." So I went back outside and tried even harder to kill myself on that awesome bike. I guess what I'm trying to say is, you're a pussy, and a total asshole.

My friends and I used to dive off our bikes on purpose. I am surprised I am not dead.

Not wearing a helmet doesn't approach the spectacular idiocy that some Darwin award winner (nominees) have displayed in the past.

You must hate your sibling though to have that attitude about their kid?

/shrug.

As a species we might do well to cull this whole bloodline. They have no compassion even for their own family and they can't even teach their kids how to ride bikes. They probably fuck up almost everything they touch.

Its hard to have compassion when people are idiots especially when the people in question have a long history of being idiots. (according to OP)

I did all kinds of dumb/fun stuff on my bike when I was a kid, and I never wore a helmet. It silly to make kids wear helmets; it's just another example of how much of a wuss todays society has become.

We used to play a game where someone would ride by on their bike and the other person would try to throw a stick into the spokes of the front wheel. And no, we weren't wearing helmets at the time.

I can't say how I would raise a kid but when I was a kid, my parent would beat me if I did something wrong.

In this case, the kids are dictating what they want to do, ie not wear helmet.

The other cousins of the family dictates that they are not going to summer school this year and just stay at home and watch tv and surf the web.

Both cases the parent should put their foot down but have not done so.

I mean if you were a parent and your kid decides not to obey you, wouldn't you put your foot down ?

You didn't have to tell us you don't have kids, it's quite obvious you don't. The first way you know someone doesn't have kids is when they say "If I were the parent and they decided not to obey me, I would put my foot down." The other is "I would sit them down and talk to them and tell them why something is bad (or wrong or hurtful or whatever)."

Two things OP, 1) very few kids obey all the time regardless of where your foot is, and 2) kids don't listen, they act...impulsively.

Never wore one growing up, wrecked my bike plenty, and don't recall ever hurting my head.

I want to punch people with no health insurance. Especially if you have kids. Idiots.
This. If you can;t afford to protect your kids, don;'t have them.

Thats a pretty harsh and messed up reaction to your nephew getting seriously hurt. Just saying.
And this.

As a kid I never wore a helmet when I rode a bike. The only accident I had involved falling off and requiring stitches on my leg. But even knee-pads wouldn;t have prevented that.

I don't remember even seeing a bike helmet when I was a kid. A high percentage of the time we got some other appendage on the ground first, a knee, forearm, palm of hand.
Those good times when mom scrubbed the gravel out with a toothbrush........

What's your point? Surely it isn't that kids shouldn't need to wear helmets because you got lucky and never injured yourself by being stupid and not wearing one.

For the record, my mom made me wear a helmet when I was a young kid. By the time I was 10, I was smart enough to understand why I should do it. Plenty of kids made fun of me, but that never bothered me. Teach your kids the reasons why they should do things instead of simply demanding that they listen. I've been employing that system with my kids and I can already see it working even though they're still very young.

Poor 10 year old... its his parents fault for letting their 10 year old do whatever he wanted. at that age, my parents were strict enough about safety and in regards with studies.

Dumbass parents
