Hey guys... I"m in the process of building a new PC. After a lot of reading and trying to pick out parts, here is what I came up with. I'm trying to keep it around 800ish and I plan to use it for gaming(BF2, COD2, etc).

Parts
Athlon 64 3200+ venice - Retail - $162 - opteron 146 maybe?

EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra - Retail - $105.00

CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) Dual Channel Kit - Retail - $76.25

eVGA Geforce 6800GS - $195.00
or
eVGA Geforce 7800GT - $299.99
Suggestions here?

COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UB Black /Blue Computer Case - Retail - $49.99

FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX450-PN 450W Power Supply - Retail - $49.99

NEC Black 3550A DVD-RW - $38.99

SENNHEISER PC 150 - $46.00 - need a gaming headset, this good?

Planning to use onboard sound and onboard lan. Am I missing anything?

Thanks for the help!

good job; you've done your research. the evga 7800gt seems seems to be the popular card. however, the 6800gs is towards the budget gaming build. both cards are good choices depending if you want highend or midrange card.

edit: this evga 7800gt is $285 after rebate. there are about 4 different 7800GTs from evga, but i'm not sure what their differences are.

id take the 7800 gt. it's quite a bit faster.
also, i'd get the opty if i were ocing, but if you arent gonig to oc, staying with the 3200+ is fine.

Yeah, I doubt I"ll OC right off the bat... maybe once I NEED the extra power. I've heard the venice cores run cooler than the optys and the other cores... which is kinda why I wanted to stick to it. Plus, I've heard the venice's can be a decent overclocker on stock hs/f.

no, opterons run cooler. My opty 144 is at 2.8GHz, 31C idle, 37C load. I think you should get the opteron.

If you can afford it, get the 7800GT.

EDIT: I have the same mobo. If you get a opteron 144, and a zalman vf700CU, then you can set the FSB to 312, the ram to 133, and raise the CPU voltage by .075 volts, then voila, a 2.8GHz CPU.

No clue man... That's another reason I might just end up w/ the venice. I wonder if all the steppings OC the same for the opterons?

3000+ will save you $30 if your tight. 2 week expected ship =( thats not good put this in the mabie pile
http://www.pcnation.com/web/details.asp?affid=305&item=E74687

motherboard/video card
$370 shipped
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=322728

free Quake 4

case/psu $110 shipped 450w PSU
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009W...700152?n=507846&s=electronics&v=glance

with the antec case and the evga combo it should save you $67

For head set i would take a look at KOSS very cufie and i think they come with life time warranty and headsets get beat up!
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/searc...nded&me=&field-keywords=Koss%20headset

for BF2 i would go with 2GB or if your tight 1.5GB i found 1GB realy held back system preformance of if you can't buy now make room for 2GB that tends to be the norm now.

if your still tight try Cheifvalue referbished ram osz corsair or geil value this should save some money and if worse comes to worse your out $5.00 RMA probly could save 30 or 40 here

I'm building a computer almost exactly the same as yours.

differences:

-Have you looked at the Xclio 450w PS?
-Try going 2x1gig of ram so u don't have to run 2T
-Whats your reasoning for the centurion case? i was planning on an antec slk3000B

how much will your setup cost?

I have a 6800gs and I'm pretty impressed with it. It plays BF2 beautifully and for the $$, it does great. Of course, its not better than a 7800, but if you need to save a few $$, dont worry about your performance by going to the GS.
