someone stole your bumpers,

how is the heater exchanger box?and the floors, they are 2 of the things that rust thru first.

take to a reputable VW mechanic and have the valves adjusted, and the oil and screen changed.

I owned 2 diff bugs,very dependable!

Just not real practicale in upstate NY after years of salt.

I read a few stories about guys that used to swap motors in them on the AMC forum. They used to sit a guy under the motor remove the mounts and drop the motor onto his chest, then jack the car up and pull him out from under it with the motor on top of him, lol. Talk about hardcore!

I stole it for 2500. Honestly I am 21 now and have been looking at these cars since i was 15 and havent seen one in my area in any condition close to this good for less than 5500 . Its got a little bit of pep but not much the engine is from a 1970 beetle, a 1600cc single port. The super beetles were a bit faster and yes there are some people who will drop a porsche engine into these guys and make them scream. odometer is showing 83k miles but I think that was from the original motor. I know that the previous owner only put about 4k miles on it as he used it for a sunday driver on nice days with the top down. garage kept.
Nice car. Don't nock the single ports. You can get 75 to 80hp out of one. That?s a lot in a light weight car

Or make a 2275/190+hp like mine. If I ever get it finished that is. Should turn an easy 13.5 to 14.0 in the quarter.

nice. The single port is nice, Gets good gas mileage and if nothing else, will keep me out of speeding tickets. The pan is totally solid, checked the floorboards etc, even by the battery and they are completely solid. He bought it from the junk yard at one of the good local vw places, and said he ended up haggling/arguing with the owner there over which one of them would keep it. The heater channels are rust free and all the hoses etc are still there, he just removed the heater box to fit the header in there. He even went ahead and covered the holes where the connections run in to keep the tin solid and not mess with the airflow. So I dont have any heat, but i barely had it in my last car and eventually had a window broken on it and then had no heat. Im young, used to it and really dont mind the lack of it.

Go here for a good air cooled heater merged exhaust setup.
Talk to these guys about keeping it fun.

OK I finaly found the header. talk to them about a single port adaption.

Put this on and you won't have to worry about adjusting points ever again.

thanks alot! Still debating how stock I am going to keep the bug, the exterior/pan are all original and in great shape, original running boards, a steering wheel was put in from 72 but at the same time the roof was chopped and the transmission/engine changed. Has original wolfsburg floormats. Its a struggle on wether it is work keeping it as stock as I can, or making it run as easy/strong as I can

i seriously get up and go outside to check on it/look at it every few hours here at work. Went outside a few times last night to check on it as well. Also actually left the house an hour or two early this morning so I could drive around and run errands/run into people and show off.

That's a very nice car... I'm more into muscle cars myself, but Bugs in that condition are rare. Definately something to be proud of. If I were you, I'd keep it stock looking. Not saying to give it the spray or anything like that, but do stuff to make it more driveable, cause a car like that should be driven. Maybe see what you can do as far as getting a bit more power out of it and make it more reliable. I'm willing to bet there some kits to utilize an oil filter that will mount it somewhere it can't be seen. That'll definately increase the life of the engine. Might also consider stuff like an electronic ignition and possibly later down the road a hydraulic cam and lifter set. Ya know, just modernize it a little bit to make it more reliable and driveable... nothing too major.

LOL... I could never drive something like that, I would flip it. That and they are ugly IMO

I guess the 25 million people who had bought them in the past must have something wrong with them and the comment about flipping the Beetle, that must be a testament to your poor driving skills.

Nice !

I see it's not a Super Beetle (flat windshield and I see no McPherson struts sticking up in the trunk) This is good, the torsion sprung Beetle has better looks, a larger trunk and when outfitted with the proper shocks, handles better

Hey OKIOS, a 1990 Mustang would look old to any 5 year old.

Congratulations, It appears to be in good if not original shape, but that's the beauty of owning a Bug, there are soooo many aftermarket and reproduction parts that you can do just about anything with them

Do not be afraid to ask for assistance, just send me a PM or email anytime, I would be more than happy to assist a fellow air cooled owner

The comment on fliping, It just appears that it would flip easyly... My cars limit is probably the fliping point for that bettle/bug. And my original comment, they are the uglyest cars Ive ever seen, even the new ones.

You appear to be intelligent but i guess you are not.

You have not seen many cars in your short life then, and there is no accounting for taste in your case. seeing that the Beetle has outsold every other automobile in the world.

These are ugly ;

Ugly Subaru

ugly BMW

Citroen 2cv

Tucker

I bet I can flip a beatle at 20mph on flat ground, cant do it to any other car. But then again I guess they are not meant to be sports cars, I can understand that. Didnt mean to be offensive to the owners of those cars, dont have to flame me.

Stop talking out your ass, you couldn't flip a Beetle at 20 m.p.h. if you hit a concrete curb sideways with it.

May I ask, how old are you, 15 ?

How can you call the Tucker ugly???

That center swiveling headlight has got to go
