My new *FREE* case

I had an old Compaq system that had a roached motherboard. I decided to gut it and use the internals of the case to build a new wooden one because my new Socket T motherboard did not fit the microATX case. I did not have to go to the store once or buy anything at all to build this case, the only cost involved will be the actual computer components themselves, so I think I did pretty good. Keep in mind, this is my first woodworking project.......ever.

What do you think?

I dont plan on ever doing this again. I am setting up a rig this week and needed a case fast, plus I didnt have any money whatsoever so this fit the bill perfectly

I like it Any way to mount the switches in the front?

Probably stronger than half the cases out there. And you cant beat that price.

Which ways do the fans blow?

Yea I still have to cut the hole for the switch. The fan at the front still needs the fan guard. It is an intake, the one below the expansion slots is exhaust. I think I am going to add another 80mm in back clost to the CPU.

If you can put an 80 above the cpu to exaust, reverse the side one to blow in at the vid card and cpu. Should provide a nice breeze for those components.

that is the best case i have ever seen. Do you ever mistake it for your sock drawer and throw stuff in there?

Actually my sister gave me another idea for one that actually does slide in a drawer. I dont have the skills to put something like that together, but it would sure make one helluva HTPC or SFF if you could hide one there. Anyone wanna try?

I've always wanted to do that, except I'm wondering about my ventalation and if it could pose as a fire hazard. I'm not thatworied though. I've made a few design sketches, and I think I'll use a P4 ITX mobo w/pci 5700 LE. 3.06ghz cpu and a 512mbstick of Crucial memory. Also, has anyone had experience with a DangerDen Black Ice micro radiator? I think liquid cooling would be could be good for such a small space. I might put it in the top drawer(right where the chair goes) of the desk in my house. Maybe I'd make the top of the desk(over the PC) glass so I can stare at my work of art:beer::thumbsup:

Good job for a temporary place to put you computer...but I don't see why you couldn't save a few hours and just run it outside of any case for the time being.

I saw that before I built mine. Thats a sweet case, but it says he spent 30+ hours on it. No way I would waste that much time.

very nice for a first timer. I like the small blocks used to hold the sides together. especially the ones holding the switch and leds. lol
