Well ya figure limited riding experience for a new bike owner on a sports motorcycle with 2 speeding tickets and no MSF (which i will be taking soon) and you have a recipe for expensive insurance.

In that case, why'd you go for full coverage?

I just hate the idea of crashing it tomorrow, and being out 6500 bucks... plus when you consider I will be taking off the insurance during the winter months it should be marginally lower then 1600, I just haven?t figure the exact price out yet and 1600 is what the quote said.

shop around for insurance. It blew me away how much cheaper state farm (calculates premiums by year and engine size... doesn't account for 'sportier' bikes) and geico are.

state farm was cheapest ($1200 for an sv and zx6r, I'm 21 with 3 years riding experience and no tickets) with geicio at $1300. this is full coverage on the zx6r and liability+theft on the sv.

Hey, what's she like? I was going to pick one up since they're in the 600 range and twins (although not a v ). On the website, there's videos, but none have the sound of the thing. Could you record a video of you revving it so I can hear it go? Slap in on youtube or somehting.

Also, what's the power like? Is there enough torque for a 650 twin? Think it'd pull a decent wheelie?

I found the stance a little high on that bike, you think it could use a slightly lower set of handlebars?

Yup, I was torn between this and a Ninja 500. I think i made the right decision.

Nice choice. I've got a Ninja 250 right now, gonna ditch it in about a month and get a ZX-6R...

Have fun

How long did you have it? Everyone i ever talked to about the 250 said almost everyone get bored of it withing a few months.

That's what the dealers keep telling me but everyone at the sportbikes.net forums tell me otherwise. There are quite a few people that still have theirs because they're small and fun to ride. I personally believe the dealer just tells me that because they want me to spend more money.
Have you taken the MSF course? What helmet/jacket did you end up getting?

IMHO if you weigh more than about 160 than the ninja 250 is too small. I am a huge advocate of starting on a 500 (gs or ninja) and *maybe* an sv650 if you're a big guy or have some 2 wheeled experience (dirtbikes etc) and know how to drive a 5 speed.

The big issue with starting out on even an sv is that if you dump the clutch it will throw you like a ragdoll. For some reason people new to motorcycles get scared if/when they accidentilly rev the motor, then (I have no clue why) let go of the handle bars to make it stop. i.e.... dump the clutch at 8k+ == you on your ass. now... a ninja 250 will do it too, just not as bad.

My problem w/ the ninja 250's is that unless you are REALLY light you can have trouble getting out of trouble if you're in a hurry. I've had 5-6 times where I've had to zip out of the way of someone changing lanes on me or coming up behind me not paying attention. That being said, imo a liter bike is too big for a rider of any skill. They aren't that much faster on a track, and the power really comes into play >65-70mph. Imo not worth the risk of low siding when you bump the throttle around a corner or something. (current 05 zx6r and sv owner)

crotch rocket == supersport

wtf? a decent wheelie? Do all of us bike riders a favor and don't raise our insurance when you end up in the hospital.

imho...i think it was possibly the worst decision for a first bike...
1) its expensive as ******
2) insurance was also expensive
3) you're going to be REALLY pissed when (yes when) you drop it
4) make sure u have good medical insurance...i laid mine a few months back and the doctor bill was insane @_@

i personally would have found a cheaper, old bike such as older ninja or bandit...something along the lines...but thats me...

anywho...its a sweet looking bike....have fun and ride safe

aaah.. yes... thats smart.. especially with bike theft on the rise..
you'll be $hit out of luck if its stolen..bad luck seems to always happen when you least expect it
and don't tell me, "But, I'll lock it up".... if someone wants your bike bad enough, they'll get it

nice bike...i have the exact same jacket in blue...cortech is great stuff and it fits like it should.

now its time for some mods....get rid of that shovel of taillight/license assembly and put a new pipe on there...a yosh should do great....

i have a wileyco on mine...sounds utterly wicked without being too obnoxious..

enjoy your new bike....and BE SAFE!!!! So many tards on the road....dont be one of them.

I was looking at that bike as a potention upgrade for next year from my 500r, but I wasn't sure if it was really a big enough of an "upgrade" to go through the hassle of selling my bike and finding a used one in nice condition.

Then I was looking at the zzr600 but wasn't sure if it was a good choice since I'll only have about 6k miles under my belt by the time I would purchase a new bike

DING DING DING! That's exactly what it is.

Do yourself a favor and at least get some good over the ankle work boots (that aren't big enough to restrict movement of the gear shift and brake). Personally I don't believe that alot of "motorcycling" boots are worth the money, I look at them and I don't see any more protection than a pair of workboots, (except for the $250 race rep boots). BUT, sneakers are NOT an option. They will rip to shreds OR they will simply fall off when you wreck. Hand and foot injuries are the MOST common injuries in practically any fall.

I went from a gs500 to a zx6r after a little over a year of riding and have had no problems. The biggest issue is getting over how fast a bike is. Once you realize that the fun is in the corners, no the straights, then what size bike you get is not such a huge deal.

After riding the zx6r for about 7-8 months I picked up an 03 sv650. The power delivery is a lot different than the zx6r, but imo no less dangerous. The sv650 has a lot of backpressure, which can be scary for a new rider in a hard turn if they let off the gas - but mainly the sv650 has way more torque down low. The zx6r is much much much faster, but only once you hit ~8k rpm. Below that the sv has more pull. Basically, you don't have to worry so much about what gear you're in and whatnot.

IMO the sv is somewhat hard to deal with parking because it feels like the all of the weight is a lot higher. I also feel like I'm 'on top' of the bike, versus 'in' the bike on the zx6r.

Once you have the basic riding skills down, have had a couple of 'close calls', can park in a parking lot without any issues/worries, and no longer care about doing wheelies and racing light to light - get a bigger bike. A zzr600 is, imo, a more advanced bike than the kawi 650 anyhow - the current zzr600 is nothing but a a two generation old zx6r.. very 'peaky' power that comes on VERY quickly...

Personally I would get an sv before the new kawi, unless you're really concerned about looking like a supersport with the 'full' fairing... and if that's your motive - you're gonna fool some of the chicks, but not other bikers. besides, the sv's with full fairing looks better imho anyway - and doesn't have the R at the end which makes your insurance nuts.

I agree. I looked at target and wal-mart.. target sells a cheap workboot (about $30) that has extra ankle padding and support... only downside is that they're very heavy.
