Wow - that bike is gorgeious! Best of luck man, hope you can stay out of the way of morons, and avoid being one yourself.

Also, what's the power like? Is there enough torque for a 650 twin? Think it'd pull a decent wheelie?

I found the stance a little high on that bike, you think it could use a slightly lower set of handlebars?

wtf? a decent wheelie? Do all of us bike riders a favor and don't raise our insurance when you end up in the hospital.
Clown, it gives an idea as what the torque band is like. Also, ever heard of track days?

Stop trotting around on your high horse already.

For one, that's the dumbest measure of torque I've ever heard. A goldwing has tons more "torque" than a dirtbike. Which does better wheelies?

Trackday??!! Since when were wheelies an integral part of a trackday??

I'll get off my high horse when you stop being a moron.

I like the bike and think everything looks cool BUT the front rotors. They give me the impression of a flower with the rounded ends and the gold in the middle and in a way, IMO, pussy's the bike out a little.
Other then that for a crotch rocket it looks cool, love the red frame.

The supersport line of Kawasaki's bikes have the 'petal' rotors too, and, IMO, they are sexxxxxxxxxxy. To each his own.

I just rode it for the first time today! Did about 10 laps around the block (got some weird looks form the people outside watching me go by them every couple min). Then a little side street action over to my uncle?s house to show it off a little.

Man, i love this bike.

same here... the 999 is ultimate sexiness. Reliability and maintainence on the otherhand... FTL...

friend has a 999 and is always having problems. Also, valve adjustments are often and $$... they had an s2r before that I don't think had any issues - other than a bent subframe from the factory. :-/ (it was recalled and duc fixed it though)

if i can find an S2R for a steal, and i have the cash, im buying it, it will be a "fun" first bike... :Q

however, a Monster 650 i will settle for as well.

but i will also be looking all over.

a guy at school has a BMW 1200cc sport bike, i dont know Beamers much, but its sexy. nice shoei helmet too.
he told me to start on like a night hawk (what he started on)

yeah nighthawks are good starter bikes.. kind of known for being ugly but eh, it's a first bike.

I know a guy that has the new k1200r... it's pretty neat. lots of cool electronics.. like electronically adjustable suspension. good stuff.. I personally REALLY like the k1200s.. (basically the r but with full fairings..) both are too $$ for me at the moment and insurance would destroy me

he said he got the Beamer for $8500, so im not sure what Beamer it is, but its full fairings everything. speedo goes up to 180, im not sure if that will allow you to figure out which one it is

looks good! I love the frame - and the rear suspension too... I like the pseudo reinforced swingarm..

another thing I hadn't notices is the wheels... they look awesome.. I thought they had the 'normal' 3 spoke wheels like sv's.. interesting that the muffler is underneath like suzi/yami 600's.. kawi was pretty well known for taking a hard stance that the under-the-seat muffler is 'better' (even though my bike has one, I disagree... the weight makes more sense to be down low like yours).. interesting rearsets too.

cut off that mudflap though.. dremel+30 minutes..

Really not sure.. I don't know any bmw bike that's $8k unless he got it used maybe?

the k1200r and k1200s are both new for 05.. here's the s:

http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/bmw-k1200s-1-2.jpg

probably not what he has, but the new r1150r's are cool too

http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/bikes/bike.jsp?b=r1150rr

On a 'side' note.. it's cool how bmw is pushing the naked look. Most of their new bike ad's are about the k1200r.. including a lot of 'anti japanese bike' ads.. (talking about how it's good at frying rice.. or eating sushi for lunch.. or something like that) imo hilarious.

I'm going to half-second that... lol... as far as tennis shoes those aren't horrible (all leather+ some ankle protection) but pick up some cheap boots.

how hot does it get where you live? I'm a huge advocate of gear - but here in atlanta it's 94 (feels like 102).. it sucks because if I ride w/ gear (mesh jacket + gauntlet gloves) I get nasty sweaty. Every so often I ride without my jacket if I'm going to work or a clients house. I don't want to jinx myself... but bleh.

A full leather jacket will be cooler in the summertime heat than a mesh jacket will....just an fyi.

You should pick up something like this and forgo the mesh. It works really well, and I haven't been on a ride yet that hasn't ended before that thing wore off.
