Nope!! I am running 3:2 now and I have tested it to run fine at 3.6ghz.....The limit of my cpu will hamper me from testing further...

It is running fine and memtested at current 292fsb w/ 3:2 and 2,7,3,3....haven't tweaked but if this is the best I can get I will start seeing if the GATs will boost me a bit more....

Sidenote: Tried the AS5 on both cpu and NB and maybe see 1-2c with TMPgenc and SuperPi 32mb going under load....I put case side on and placed back into desk and tmpgenc has reading error 30 minutes in...Pulled it back out and now I am running 1 hours with no error...

Am I throttling when the temps read 62-63??? I wonder when I have case side off I get 1m 1sec spreads of iterations in superpi 32mb but I noticed when the temps were in the 62-62.5 range the spread grew to as much as 3min per iterations.....

I think I will flash to the bios version 17 and see if temps get better or memory settings get better.. nothing to lose....

I know I can run vcore stable at 3.5ghz but heat is limiting me....May have to shift down to 3.4ghz w/ 1.53v and leave it there until Xmas and see if a nice new case with plenty of case fans can help me out a bit...

Maybe I need to get an all cooper zalman or slk...I need to look into it....My alpha didn't do so bad compared to this swiftech and it was running a 80mm fan....

Heat is a real issue @ these speeds. You should not be throttling @ 62 - 63C. I've seen it happen when I hit 70C before I upgraded my cooling.

Its going to be hard to run in the 3.5 - 3.6 GHz range and still be quiet. Plenty of case fans = plenty of noise. Most people aren't as picky about noise as I am though. When the fans are in low speed mode on my rig, its hard to tell if the PC is turned on without looking at it. That is what quiet is. Even when they are @ 100%, I bet it's quieter than most rigs run around here.

That Thermalright SP-94 heatpipe looks pretty interesting.

if you are having heat probs now wait til summertime
what is your room temp?

you put you puter "inside" a desk?
that is a big no-no.

some ppl just dont understand HOW HOT these things get @ 3.4+ ghz, even on def vcore.

Mine has all the no-no's. Inside a desk, overclocked, very minimal airflow. It is perfectly stable though, so I can't complain. Some more CPU speed and I would need to change something. If I take the tower out of the desk, temps drop some. If I leave the side off, they drop some more.

I want to try A side intake duct like this one. Any of you guys know where to get it?

The BIOS has a setting for when the system will throttle. I had to increase mine in order for it to be stable so you may want to bump it up higher and see what happens.

It's an Inwin IW-V523G.250FU2D. There's a guy at SilentPCReview that uses this same version to run a P4 2.4 passively cooled with a fanless Zalman 7000 using that side duct as an air intake for his CPU
Thanks Ralf. I found that out also. I already have a nice case and dont want a new one.

I think I'm going to do a front intake duct using the kit linked here. Since my tower is in my desk, but has the front of the case exposed, a front lower intake duct would work well. this should get me some cooler intake air to the CPU.

Duvie, this may work for you as well.

BTW, the "PC Desk" is pretty cool.

It's the 4 phase power circuitry that is overheating, imo. One reason why I went back to Asus.

Why do you think the MAX3 has OTES?

Man, that ducting kit is too cool! I would have bought one of those, instead of just putting an 80mm fan directly over my hsf, if I had known they existed.

i dont think so. (unless Duvie's case cooling is really that poor)
i had no problems running a P4C @ 290fsb.
and my P4B ran the same on a Asus P4P800, but needed a higher vcore then my IC7.

my "big breakthru" came when i finally upgraded my vid card.
my 5900 uses a 4pin molex for power, and got me an extra 4fsb over my ti4600 that doesnt use 4pin power.
my ti4600 also needed 1.65v AGP, whereas my 5900 only needs 1.5v AGP. (both cards are/were OCed)
so in my case, the vid card made a big difference.
(even tho the 5900 runs alot hotter)

Yep. Plenty of people run the FSB speeds Duvie is on an IC7.

BTW, BIOS version 19 is out.

1. Update CPU micro code.
2. Add notification when none 80-wire cable is installed.
3. Fixed them problem that system hangs if
1) DRAM ratio is set to 5:4 or 3:2
2) DRAM timing by SPD
3) N/B strap CPU as FSB800
4.BIOS compile date: 11/18/2003

I hope #3 is the case (if so it is about time) maybe I will be able to go above my 300FSB limit. I will have to download and test it this weekend. I will have to go check if they did the same for the IS7 so I can go higher with my daughters PC.

Status update:....

haven't tried bios 19 will do later...

As long as case is open no crashes and temps stay below 62ish....

My system or case temps are 24idle with 75-76f at room temp...so pretty close...loads to 28c with case open and 32 with case closed so hopefully case mods and new case will help..I already use all round cables and have only 2 ide devices running right at this moment.

BIG NEWS!!!

In an attempt to bring temps down I dropped vagp to 1.55v and vdimm to 2.7v (since I am running 3:2 and under 400mhz ddr)

I also dropped the vcore to 1.6v bios or 1.55-1.56v actual and 1.54 (1.536) load....

Results 3 hour TMPGenc of Two Towers DVD, while watching it with WinDVD, while running 32mb of SuperPI and no errors...trying 6 hours next one instance of prime

If I can cool this chip this is one great chip...

Also I turned throttling off but when I closed case and ran above programs temps hit 63c aND TMPGENC HAD A READ ERROR....

I am also looking at ram chips getting too hot...

I have put the 90mm fan on the Swiftech with it blowing on it cause previous owner said it was per manufacturers spec...However I notice my PWM temps are higher this way as well as the vid card and ram seem warmer and the air around them..I amy try sucking air off and duct it to the side of the case or my blow holes above....

Still doing research on the Zalman 7000A CU versus the heatpipe to see which one may be better. I think the zalman rules out a heating duct which I like...

Well it didn't pass the 6 hour test so I can't call it stable in my eyes so I bumped it back up to 1.58v where it does the 6 hour TMPGenc plus 10hours plus of prime95....

The temp never went over 60c so I don't think temp was a factor...

I think I have narrowed it down to the zalman after reading reviews. I wasn't impressed the results many review sites used on the SP-94 was using a 55db 4800cfm delta fan...Like never in hell!!!!

Zalman had a .18-.20 c/w with just a nice 2200rpm fan mode.....I think this swiftech is in the range of .21-.22 so I should see some difference....

bios v19 suxazz ~ it wil not complete even a short tmpgenc.

program locks up @ 99% every time.

A new heatsink is not going to help you. You need to work on better case ventilation and/or ambient temps.

Here's a vote for the Zalman CNPS 7000 Cu. Running one now on an IS7 /2.4C M0 stepping, at 288 fsb (roughly 3.45ghz) at 1.575V. The fan is very quiet, and it has been stable so far. (temps are roughly 26C over systemp temp with 2 prime95 instances running for now).

Will bump up the fsb more later, when i get my RMA replacement from kingston.... stupid ups....

If your CPU temp is not the problem (60C is fine), why are you looking at a new HS/F?

I tried bios version 19 and I had no issues...Did a 6 hour tmpgenc last night...Temps didn't change so no reporting errors...still couldn't get 5:4 ratio to work with any settings...

NOoo... I mean not a factor in wy the program had an error at 1.56v actual....

CPU temp or PWM temp or even the ram temp is still the question and Thor is right I need to look at a whole case issue.....

I am looking at some cool case mods so I am not sure if I need the HSF yet...

One thing I would like to know if this is cpu or pwm or whatever is why do I get an obvious issue when cpu temp is at 63c when I hear ppl going much higher??? Stay below that magic number and I can do things that would bring any unstable chip to its knees...

I am going to change fan directions and try to improve circulation around my ram sticks a bit. Also going to try to take my extra 80mm fan and install it at the top of the case to expell heat faster.

have you tried both sets of ram slots yet?

i use slots 1+3.
my slots 2+4 cannot pass M86 at all, at any speed.

do you have any other memory around to test?
