I have a few comments:

1. Holy crap that's alot of $$ for a case.

2. How familiar are you with tweakng MB's? The DFI is a very good OC'ing board, but quite often takes quite a bit of playing to get it working correctly. It's also very picky about RAM. IMO, the DFI has way too many problems to be considered with all the other current choices. My suggestion would be the Epox 9NPA+Ultra.

3. 7800GTX? -- A 7900 GT offers equivalent (sometimes better) perfromance yet costs over $100 less. IF you can't find one in stock, I'd go with a X1800XT 512.

4. I don't really know anything about that PSU, but a Seasonic 500W would be a better choice IMO. 600W is definitely way overkill for your rig.

5. $355 is waaaay too much to spend on 2GB of RAM. Decide which MB you are going to get first, then settle on some cheaper RAM that is compatible with your MB choice.

6. With your components, I'm guessing you like to game. I'm not sure that monitor is much of a gaming LCD. Also, since your budget seems quite high, maybe look at getting a 20.1" widescreen LCD.

7. $17 for AS5?? Where the hell did you find that price?

if you are gonna spend that kind of money on a case, get the SS TJ07

buy a 7900GT for much less

2GB of ram shouldnt cost any more than $200

1. As has been stated the DFI motherboards are great for overclocking but very picky on what RAM it likes. If you peruse the official DFI forums this issues repeatedly comes up. I myself have the Epox 9NPA+Ultra.

2. I think you'll do better with either the 7900GT or the X1800XT. I've been reading a number of posts in other forums where 7800GTX owners were having some issues, but then again that can be said about almost every piece of hardware out there.

3. I think you can get your RAM choice a whole lot cheaper! At ZipZoomFly you can get the same exact RAM for $163.00. It is on their opening screen.

Is that true? Are there some benchmarks someplace I can look at? Just wondering... I just picked up a 7800GTX... did I make the wrong choice?

anyone who pays that kind of money for a 7800gtx at this point has failed to do any kind of reading at all. but then spending 320 on a case blows my mind too

Yes you did. Check out the anandtech review of the 7900GT.

If you can send that thing back NOW!

Yea, you need to see if you can return that card. You defintely should have done a little more research before you bought.
But hey, I guess we should cut you some slack. With the entire Quinn/Alden/Link/Floyd/etc. soap opera for the last 2 months, you were obviously preoccupied.

Seriously though, if you can exchange that card for a 7900GT or even upgrade to a GTX, that would be a very wise choice.

1. have fun with problems with your dfi lanparty board. usually people with pc knowledge study the parts before buying, i dont think you'd know what you're doing with that motherboard so expect bsod's and corrupt windows files possibly resulting in a reformat in a month or so.
2. you dont need 4gb of ram
3. why do you need such a big case with such few componenets. get the lian li v1000b or 1200 b if u really want large and with the money u saved get a nicer monitor.
4. u can get AS5 for $5
5. if u need to further save money get a generic keyboard or a logitech $20 keyboard and save some money for the nicer monitor or other componenets.
6. well it seems like money is no problem for you so u should add 2 x dvd burners, a 150 raptor, and a x1900xt(x) for the ultimate computer. what you have right now is a mix of good and bad where the bad outweights the good

With this kind of money just buy a prebuilt...buying the most expensive parts u can find can prove more trouble than it's worth. Plus systems can be very unreliable vs prebuilt. But if you still want to build I would go for stability. The epox board mentioned is a good choice, they are very stable. And definitely get a 7900GT for more than $100 less. You won't need no more than 550W max(seasonic, enermax, pc power cooling). That Ram is overpriced you shouldn't be paying no more than $200 or even less. 400GB wow..u may want to go for less b'c there is a better chance of the drive failing long before u use that much capacity. Try one of their raptors.

Case: $320 is way too much. i'd keep it at a max of $150. the p180 isn't bad

Mobo: change it for all the reasons everyone else has said. the epox 9npa+ ultra is $3 cheaper, stable, and a pretty good overclocker.

GPU: the 7900GT beats the 7800GTX in every single benchmark (link to benchmark). if it's out of stock, go with the x1900xt. it's around the same price as the 7800GTX and is even better than the 7900GT.

PSU: a 500w seasonic, fortron or antec PSU will be more than enough for your rig. the enermax liberty's good too

CPU: your choice isn't bad but if you're trying to overclock (which i think you are with you trying to get the Ultra-D), why not just get the x2 3800 or opteron 165?

RAM: get corsair, g.skill or ocz ram for no more than $100 per gig. newegg has some good deals on some of its G.Skill 2x1gig kits (like this one). and you definitely DO NOT need 4GBs. get 2GBs for now. i doubt you'll use more than 1.5GBs.

HDD: good choice. if you absolutely must spend that much on your hard drives, though, get only one of the drives you chose and a raptor150.

Monitor: getting a 19" monitor is a complete waste for your system. the max resolution is 12x10. if you get a strong video card, you should have a 20" monitor. if you take my recommendations, you'll have over $500 saved ($170 for case, $100 for GPU, $70 for PSU, $325 for ram).

AS5 is not $17

good luck building but next time try doing a bit more research.

oh and btw 4gb ram will actually slow down your computer speed in general starting with slower boot time and gaming performance. look into this. but seriously i was looking into that full tower case too but unless you're running 6+ hard drives and you need 2 psu's you wont need that case.

Hee hee, yeah right.

Oh well, at least it doesn't perform any *worse* than the 7900GT, eh? I bought my new stuff just as the 7900GT was hitting, and had pretty much made my decision by that point. You've gotta just pull the trigger sometime, ya know? I got an eVGA - I wonder if they'd let me do the autoupgrade thing, and refund me the difference! (Doubt it...) Still, I might RMA the 7800GTX to Newegg, take the 15% hit, and get a 7900GT instead.

You should defintiely think about stepping up to the 7900 GTX. Not sure of the exact price difference, but you should at least look into it.
