Hi,
I will be purchasing a new P4 Dell Dimension in the relatively near future. I am having trouble deciding what version of Windows to get for my OS.

I am very comfortable and happy with Win98 that I currently use. Plus I know its ins and outs. The new Dells come standard with Win ME, but I can get Win 98 or 2000. I have read great things about win 200 here, so I am leaning in that direction.

I use my computer for general buisness apps, web authoring and it does get a fair amount of usage as a gaming platform. NHL2001, actually all the EASports Games,Sim City, Delta Force, etc. I am concerned that moving to one of the newer OS will make my games uplayable and be harder to support my other software.

Does anyone have any pointers or experience with the new OSs and can help me decide?

Thanks,
Scott OHara

you can check www.ntcompatible.com to see if your software is compatible with win2k. Also, check that your video card manufacturer has good drivers out for win2k, or else your screwed.. if you have an Nvidia card, i can deffinetely reccomend win2k, the reference drivers nvidia puts out for win2k work great, i can play anything i've tried, and i use win2k server.. i put thumbs up in that area

As of now no EA Sports games work under Win2K. And a few other titles don't work.. It does kinda suck but Win2K still is the best choice IMHO. Whatever you decide I would stay away from WinME, from what I've seen very few people like it..

I would recommend Win2K. Before I installed Win2K I had Win98 installed. Now I will never go back. Most of the games that I have work on Windows 2000. Another option would be to create a small partition with Win98 on it so that you can play games that can't run on Win2K.

Hi,
Well I figure by the time I get the new computer I will have played out the existing EA games that I have right now. Im sure that by then, the new ones and subsequent ones will support Win2k

UPDATE:
I just saw this at NT Compatible:

Has anyone used this? How about with EA Games?
