I'm going to be looking at purchasing a second set of wheels or having to rip off the current tires. (even though they have decent tread left)

Unfortunately, Bridgestone S-04 Potenza Pole Position don't really handle driving in 15F weather very well. Which is unfortunate. I'm on the hunt for a second set of BMW wheels but it's hard to find the right 18x8.5 and 18x7.5 wheels with the correct offset. I thought a lot of people would ditch the wheels but I was wrong...

If you are just going to mount winter tires on them pick up a "cheap" set from tirerack and save your nice wheels and tires for better weather.

Well, I don't plan on driving in cold and wet/snowy ass weather very much... I just need the wheels/tires for a road trip that's coming up and maybe for the next couple months. Literally maybe need all seasons (not winter tires) for 2-3 months out of the year IF that. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. So... it's pretty dry and warm here all year.

Yeah, I might end up doing this. Just leave my car in Vegas and rent one for Zion. Not a bad idea. Thanks. Not like I really want to drive the road to Zion in 8F weather on any tires...

Seems price isn't going to be great to rent a car for that period of time ($140-150). I've also got to figure out where to park my car for 3 days in a city that I don't know too well. :/

Sounds like a lot of hassle. The cost to mount new tires and put my old tires back on is about $150 too. So, that option seems to be less than optimal. If prices for renting a car were half that, it'd be a no brainer. But, they're not. :/

And how much is it to buy those new tires...that you don't really need except for this trip?

Parking in Vegas is cheap. It's not like you're leaving a car in Manhattan.

Eh. $700. But, I can *keep* them on... (He says, as it is perfectly sunny and reasonably warm outside...)

I could also just try to run summer tires in 8F weather. You know, take my chances...

I would just pay $150 for a rental car. That's probably about how much an oil change will cost on your new BMW. Skip the first oil change and you will break even!

Takes out loan to cover most of a used BMW, can no longer afford parking or ramen...

Whatever. I'll probably rent the fucking car because storing a spare set of tires seems ridiculous right now.

Nah. Oil changes are gonna be <$60. 7 quarts of 0w-40 w/ $10 oil filter can be had for under $60.

You might be amazed at just how little traction summer tires have in 8º weather. I know I was, and all I was trying to do was move the car 10 feet on level ground.

Oh, I'm aware... they'd probably be ruined as well. I'm going to try to rent the car.

Why aren't you using a BMW-recommended oil?

Booked a rental car. I'll pay for parking too. It's not $4 a day though btw. It's more like $10/day because it doesn't include taxes+fees.

Hmm... Well, that makes things tricky. They still say on many pages where it is sold that it's LL-01 approved.

And now you know why I gave you a specific link. Like I said, my local Autozone didn't have a single oil that was LL-01 approved.

Srsly. http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2015/02/no-fixed-abode-gotta-rich-cheap-car/

Always LOL at idiots barely financing used euro lux car.

I expect another car purchase thread within the year, or a thread on how the dealer quoted him $1500 for fixing the trim and is there a way to refinance his purchase to include this $1500 necessity.

OP...you should definitely buy a set of mediocre all-seasons for the 3 days you are going to be at Zion where it might possibly be 8 degrees. Everyone knows this.

Went to Zion the summer before last and it was great. Do Angel's Landing before Observation Point because the view from Observation Point is even better. Have fun!
