Wow. Hicks and rednecks galore eh? Just because someone doesnt want their daughter living in this type of situation doesnt mean they are stupid, as generalized by describing people in this way.

I somewhat agree and disagree with the situation. In most cases I wouldnt like my child having to live in this type of situation. Unless I thought highly integrity of the people the child was staying with, I would do the same thing.

Does he want the child because he wants to take care of her or does he want her because it's a way to hurt your sister? Sadly, so many kids get hurt just because the parents are trying to hurt each other.

Can you explain to me how a young child living in a stable enviroment his straight mother, who happens to live with "Uncle Ryan and Uncle [Ryan's SO]" is worse with living with who I am assuming by Ryan's posts are white trash who can't provide adequately for the child anyways, not mention their obvious homophobic tendicies? I am at a loss as to try to think of a way that having a Same Sex couple in the household automatically disqualifies that household as being suitable for raising a kid.

The problem I have though, is that you and the father both make it sound as if a child living in the presence of a same sex couple is some kind of burden on the child, and that the child is not capable of normal development. I don't hide who I am from her, nor do I hide that the guy I live with is my partner - I'm sure she doesn't understand the social aspects of it, but if anything, I think our home has provided a neutral situation where she is untainted from ridiculous social mores.

I'm not worried though, I'm sure some kind of testimony from the Social worker will negate anything he says.

Well, it might be that he doesn't like gay people and doesn't want his child growing up around one, and that's his right. Unfortunately, the mother AKA your sister has custody of said child and since being gay is not a crime last time I checked, he will lose this dispute in any reputable court of law.

I have a friend who is a member of the ACLU - he gave me some information today on who to contact if my sister were to loose the case solely because of the gay issue. I am confident she won't, because to any sane person, it's painfully obvious the father is grasping at straws in this petition.

But you're right - you just never know, that's why I'm keeping other avenues open.

You better not take any chances. Even though this may seem like an idiotic issue to you and anyone with half a brain you guys have to squelch this, and fast. These no reaon to pull punches when dealing with the custody of your child.
