So my Klipsch ProMedia 4.1 just died, and im looking to replace it.
I dont play as many games as I used to, so im thinking this time I just need a 2.1 setup.

I have a full home theater set in my living room, so I dont need anything big.
just enough to fill a room with music, and have some strong base.

budget is about $150.

I wanted to get a new Klipsch promedia 2.1, but I see they no longer have the on/off switch on them, so that is a deal breaker. I think im going to miss the 3in driver on each sattelite, as they made pretty impressive sound.

Also prefer switch to be on the speaker, not in a remote or extra control pod.

Headphone jack is a must, and a microphone jack would be a bonus for my 2 plug headset.

I see that bestbuy has the Logitech Z623 on sale for $129 with free shipping, but is there any other better options?
Also seen a few recommendations for Berenger MS40 studio speakers... for $150. The reviews look ok, but slightly concerned that I might need a sub to go with them, though the prospect of going optical is nice.

I wasn't crazy about no on/off switch. They were on sale at Best Buy for $119 at the end of June. At that price, I got over the lack of the switch. Plus, the sound is amazing. The bass is very strong.

FWIW, I mentioned the no on/off switch to a friend of mine and he said he has a switch but has never used it.

I would seriously consider buying a surround system and feed it from your pc instead of buying dedicated pc speakers.

I use my on/off switch daily. there are times I want the sound on, and times I want it off. My PC is in the living room, so if I am watching tv, then I want the sound off on the PC so a random website doesn't blast its ad, while im watching the news or whatever im watching.

there are times im watching tv and my kids are playing on nick or Disney, and I want the sound off. To me its too much hassle to use the windows mute control.

Why? I don't need a surround sound on my PC, I have one 15 feet away in the same room with my 62inch TV, blueray, PS4, etc. I don't use my PC as a HTPC, I don't watch any content from my PC on my tv.

I only use it for basic web surfing, an occasional youtube video, and playing my mp3 collection.

Then there's the fact I have limited desk space to hold a surround sound.

Right now, I'm using a $10 2.0 speaker set from Logitech. Serviceable for general multimedia use, but sound horrible for music.
I just need to find a 2.1 set which will plug into my onboard analog sound and give me some decent loud music.
I'm not an audiophile by any means, I just need the best on a budget.

Perhaps you should consider wireless bluetooth speakers and they've got them at places like walmart. You can have your 2.1 setup in a compact package without running wiring.

I'm currently using M-Audio LX4 2.1 system. they don't make it anymore, but i'd buy M-Audio again just because these have worked for around 10 years, and provide me super good sound for movies, music, CS:GO, etc. I'd look into the BX5 or their smaller speakers if u dont need anything to loud and boomy.

Why no just connect your computer up to your surround sound system? Then you can use something like soundswitch to switch to your headphones for the few times you want to use surround on the TV and listen to headphones from the computer.

It appears most of the m-audio speakers require rca inputs. What's a good sound card that has rca jacks?

The sub might not be that important on the Behringer MS40, given it has 4.75" drivers. they probably won't be putting out as much bass as the promedias, but the promedia's are pretty muddy/not that clear/crisp/clean sounding.

there's not much that can really beat the promedia's at bass
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/pc-speaker-2.1-channel-subwoofer,2835-8.html

studio monitors will have a flatter frequency response than those generic computer 2.1 setups.

A lot of people say the MS40 go louder than the M-Audio AV40 due to the larger drivers, but the AV40 has a better cabinet, producing more accurate sound.

M-Audio/RCA
you can use a cheap 3.5mm to RCA cable/converter.
there aren't many sound cards that support RCA out

If the MS40/AV40 don't provide enough bass, you can always buy a cheap subwoofer like the polk PSW10
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1692618

or given your budget you could go with a cheapish T-Amp and nearfield Bookshelf speakers, which would provide another option, though bookshelf speakers can be pretty big.

Obviously at this point, why bother , just hook your computer up to your TV
