Mine was Pentium II 223, I think bought bought back 1997. Those were the days. The DOS memory problem was a PITA to deal with when trying to load games, had to keep adjusting Himem.sys and getting rid of TSRs.

They sure have come a long way.

Ehh .. in 1996 I built my first system using a Cyrix P200+ CPU .... WHAT A PIECE OF SHIT. My friend's P75 had just as strong of an FPU!

Before that I had a secondhand 486 DX that someone was throwing away....

At least back then computers were usually very quiet, with only one fan installed in the PSU and at times a small one on the CPU heat-sink (which wasn't audible anyway). Putting in SDRAM in a P54C/P55 Pentium made a world of difference, sadly on the 430VX and 430TX chipsets allowed it, which by the time they appeared to market (1996-1997) it was time to hop onto a Pentium II Klamath 233-266MHz on a then EDO/BEDO only 440FX chipset

I was first introduced to computers as a child, got to see 286 run nibbles and gorillas!
I still remember games like Cosmo and Commander Keen...though it may have been a 386 by that time, not really sure anymore. It was so exciting back then. Much of what sparked my interest and learning in computers began during those times. I would break the computer and then I'd be in real trouble, so I had to figure out how to fix it!

I will never forget the smell of a burning Cyrix!

I remember in 1992 a 486 DX2 66MHz system complete with 14" CRT and dot-matrix printer cost my family $2500. Thankfully system components have got a lot cheaper.

His P1 probably lasted a good numbers of years before an upgrade was needed. I plan on keeping my i7 for another few generations.

Heck before this I was using a Barton 2500+ for like 6 years. I only upgraded at the very last minute I could heh

indeed, i kept my athlon fx-64x2 for while, i was soooo tempted to buy whole intel and other line of dual cores and quad cores, but just now i'm updating to i5 2500k. i'll probably keep it for while.

After playing around with some old apple pc with noisy heat printers I updated.
In 1993 I bought my first pc a pentium 75 256 ram and only 1meg viedo and a top of line epson printer total cost $2800.
A year or so later I bought 2-12m 3dfx cards and a intel overdrive 200mmx cpu.
A few years back I pluged it in to charge the capactors and it still ran.

In 1993 I bought my first pc a pentium 75 256 ram and only 1meg viedo and a top of line epson printer total cost $2800.
A year or so later I bought 2-12m 3dfx cards and a intel overdrive 200mmx cpu.
A few years back I pluged it in to charge the capactors and it still ran.

75Mhz Pentiums didn't come out until late '94

Oh, and you say a year later you bought 2 of what I assume were voodoo2 cards (12Mb, and first SLI cards). Those weren't released until 1998.

Remember my first Gateway 2000 386 33mhz with 2MB ram. Thing didn't even come with a sound card so my dad picked one up at Electronic Boutique so I could play Wing Commander 2 with the voice pack.

We also had a color dot matrix printer. I remember visiting the Playboy website and trying to print out a pic. Took about 20-30 minutes to finish. Faping to internet porn was much more challenging than what kids today have to go through.

Plugged in the old 1993 pentium ami bios 1.00.12 BBOR-1992 there are intel and other files dating back to mid 1993 date.

The 75 chip that came with it was was copper and had the pentium bug.
This only 2nd time the pc was started since mid 99.
Theres death noise in orignal corner hd and 98nd ran scandisk
People say that you have to must run stuff yearly to keep cap good.

When I buy viedo yearly I loose track of the year so cut me some slack bought and still have most of these cards 1-4m,2-12m,3000,3500,5500-3dfs,gf3goldsample,9700,2-9800,
200,400matrox,800,850xtpe,7800sli,7900sli,8800gtx,8800sli,2-4890cf blew one 2 cheap green 5870cf
First pc so I kept it gave the rest of my pcs away free to people that never had pc.

I remember upgrading my 486 DX2/50 to a Pentium 150, it was an open box Packard Bell and everyone was impressed with the price I got. I kept upgrading it, eventually replacing the MoBo with a Pentium II. When the PS/2 socket solder went bad I took it to the shop where they told me I should just get this great MoBo that they all had a P3B-F. I replaced the rest of the parts over time, taking it through UW SCSI when the bus became limiting. It's still running with an 850 Coppermine and absolutely none of the original parts. Talk about longevity.
