Shens. If you're really this much of a tool, you probably shouldn't log back in.

As children, we have people who look at us. Friends look at our cars. When he goes tailgating at a football game and a crowd of people is around someone else's car, that'll just make his look that much less worthless. Do you have any idea what this will do to his social standing? AFAIK, there's a full list being kept now, based on many factors such as hair style, clothing, and now cars. You've gotta keep a good appearance to maintain that social standing, it's not easy, competition is harder than ever with all the asian folk coming in with their big expensive cars.

I for one, support the OP in his battle against his unwilling parents, they've clearly forgotten just how hard the life of a HS'er is.

OP: Stand up for your rights, this is your time to shine.

When my parents gave me one of their old cars (many, many years ago), I was THRILLED! Not complaining I didn't like what I got. Of course, 5-6 years after that, when they let my sister pick and choose what brand new car she wanted, I was a little upset.

well my sisters and brothers all got nicer cars than this, and even when their cars were totaled or died got another car.

You answered your own question. Your parents gave your siblings nicer cars that they trashed and that put them in the poor house. Thus, they can't afford to get you a nicer car. They were idiots for giving your siblings nice cars.

No child should EVER get a nice car to start with (rich or poor). They should have beaters, so that if they get in a wreck, it isn't a big deal. Then, when they are responsible, they'll be quite happy to have a nice car. Each car in your life can therefore be bigger, badder, and better than the one before. Everytime you get a car, you'll be thrilled. It is like playing a video game. You start out crappy, and are excited every time you gain a level, increase your stats, or get more powerful equipment. That is a lot of fun.

If you start at the top, you can only go downhill. You'll never be happy with a new car because it is just like your old car. What a disappointing life.

Skoorb effect?

Where is the original Skoorb parody of a thread like this?

Odds are you will wreck/trash it since it's not really yours. I crashed a couple of cars b/w ages 16-18yo that my parents provided us with (4 kids) but I have never crashed a car that I paid for in the 13 years since.

My first car was a 1993 eclipse (bought in 2000) that my parents helped me buy for $3000 (I paid half). After I totaled, I have not owned my own car since (my car is borrowed now). Every car has been hand me downs that my mom and I had to pay some amount for. After college (in 1 week) th ecar goes back to her house. Be grateful that you have parents that will pay the whole amount for your BRAND NEW car. I hope that after college, you atleast get the point and stop leeching off yorr parents for stuff you want.

Maybe you should tell you parents to put the money towards something else other than a car for you if your family is tighter on cash now. Maybe say, "Hey mom and dad, keep the money and put it towards some payments of any sort (if any) or towards your retirement. I can be an adult and pay for a car. I'll work for one, because after all, I have several decades to go before I retire."

even a very simple part time job can net you at least the $240 you'd need for a decent used car =/

Geesh, you're out of the loop aren't ya? Flip on MTV, its what all the hip and cool kids are watching these days. Paris Hilton and Brittney Spears are model citizens who every kid wants to aspire to. Who gives a damn about parents nowadays anyways

You could always get a job and buy your own instead of whining about what kind of car your parents might GIVE you...

ROFL. Please tell me my ****** sarcasm meter is broken... If my parents gave me something, and I didn't like it because my friends had something better, they'd beat my ass and let me continue walking for being such an ungrateful bitch.
That's child abuse. Did your parents also make you mow the lawn? Child labor. Mow dishes and take out trash? Child labor. You probably didn't even get minimum wage for chores.

Were your parents paying your cell phone bill? If not, you got an issue.

It's not easy being a kid, you've got to fight for your rights.

(For those who can't tell, I'm talking complete sh*t)

I agree with you 100%. When parents have their babies they should plan on providing a suitable vehicle when they learn to drive. A unreliable, unfashionable car is NOT adequet and frankly it pisses me off to see a kid that is forced by his parents hand me down into driving a oldsmobile. Parents simply have no respect for what their kids deserve anymore.

just my 5 cents
Exactly, I remember how we were giving Skoorb advice on starting a Nissan fund at his child's birth, I told him if it was a Nissan, a skyline R34 with money for upgrades is the minimum, or at least a 350z, who could be seen in anything less?

See, you have the right idea. A kid with an expensive car is a kid who will TAKE CARE of that car. If you give a kid some crappy buick, they are gonna trash it and wreck it.

Give the kid something he will love...like a Z4 or something and he will take care of it and learn to respect the car and be more aware of the drivers around him.

OP, I can't believe your parents are screwing you over like this. I would bitch at them until they give you what you deserve

EDIT: Here is me with the car my parents bought me when I turned 16 last year...It wasn't the color I wanted so I had my parents get it repainted

You too, Sdiver2489 (see my previous post).

Maybe they would give you more if your food budget was not so high.

It's responses like this that make this thread comedy gold.

I remember High School pretty well because I graduated in 2003. I had to share a camry with my twin sister. We didn't get the car till our senior year in High School anyways. I can just picture who these people would be High School. God, if I saw them now I would probably be rolling on the floor laughing.

Of course I didn't have to worry about loosing friends over my car. I had a solid group of buddys who I still keep in contact with (in fact we are going to Vegas in June fvck yeah!).

This thread is awesome.
