Processor looks great, if you plan to OC like MAD get the Opteron 165 otherwise then your good with the X2.

7800GT good

2gigs of value ram good (cosair/ocz/etc. any GOOD brand)

Seasonic 500w good

HD Good, WD's are also nice

Fans in case enough for now

Cheap 19in. LCD. Good response time, Samsungs/dells/hyundi's also good. (hyundi just OK).

Sh!tty sound system...well, alright, whatever floats your boat.

NEC is fine, Benq also good. Also Lite-on makes some decent drives, though their current ones are only average, but they still get the job done.

Artic Silver isn't required, just when you build it watch the temps. If you want lower temps get a new HS and some AS5, if temps are ok then dont bother.

OH RIGHT, totally forgot about the mobo. As long as your not planning on SLI then get the MSI Neo4 Plat.

Enjoy and feel free to ask anything else,
also does anyone else agree with me? This is what I would do, not sure what everyone else has to say.

If you look at those two other threads I made: 1 2
I've already discussed the difference choices of CPUs and found that since I want to keep the three year warranty on the CPU I would not be OCing.

Um you said it looks good... but all of those questions that I posted are still unanswered so thanks for the reply but can you answer any of my questions? For example I don't have all the parts picked out...

EDIT: Wizboy11 this post is directed towards Opteron Guy

For RAM, I would go with two sticks of 1 GB value RAM since you do not intend to overclock. Any of these manufacturers will do: Kingston, Corsair, Patriot, Mushkin.

For a mobo, I would recommend the ASUS A8N-E nForce4 Ultra. ASUS is a reputable manufacturer of high-quality mobos. The A8N-E has been out for a while and is a mature mobo. DFI makes really good mobos, but since you state you are not going to overclock, then purchasing a DFI would be overkill. It doesn't look like you are looking for a SLI rig, so I am not recommending any of the SLI-capable mobos.

I am not familiar enough with the case you have selected to recommend any fans for it, but I am sure someone else on this forum will have a suggestion. Yate Loons seem to be preferred if you are looking for quiet fans.

For a monitor, I would recommend you purchase a 19" LCD from a well know manufacturer like Samsung, Viewsonic, NEC, BenQ, LG, Sony, or Dell. Read the reviews and make sure it has a DVI input. There are a lot of threads on the AT forums which discuss LCDs. In fact, there is a "Buyers Guide for LCDs" under the video category of these forums.

For the monitor I've read that Guide and alot of others. My needs would be...

everyday use

no professional video or photo editing so not insanely picky

no ghosting <--I'd like to have a LCD that doesn't ghost enough to have a person notice it

I'm looking for the most for my money. I've thought about a 19in LCD and a 17in LCD and I can't really decide which size to get. Right now I've got a hp pavilion mx50 CRT so an LCD will be nice

19in LCDs are just 17in lcds blown up right...? or......

Do any of these monitors look good?

Benq 19in 8ms

Samsung 19in 8ms

Viewsonic 19in 3ms gray to gray 6ms black to white

I'm on a budget so I'm trying to get the best for my money.

I got the DFI N4F-D Ultra couple weeks ago. Can't really vouch since I haven't had the chance to use it that much. I heard that some of these though can be modded to SLI with just a #2 pencil (haven't tried it just saw in on an AnandTech Article). Pretty good if you can -- SLI board for 75% the cost of SLI.

btw, for good monitors for not a lot of money Samsung is good. Get 19" only if you want bigger screen but less quality that a 17". From what I know, both still only have a max res of 1280 x 1024, so getting a 19" is merely making the pixels bigger.

Go for the 17" if ur on a budget. Not very much of a difference between them. If u game, the 17" has no difference between 19". Buy a cheap NF4 board with good OCing options, in case u feel like it in the future. Any value RAM that comes from a good company, and the case fans on the Centurion are very good. Quiet, but they dont blow much air. They will work for a long time tho...

I dunno...I've never heard of that brand before. And LCD's are pretty finicky things, so I try to stick with good brands -- Viewsonic, Samsung, BenQ and the like. If I was in your position, I would just get a Samsung 17" LCD for about the same price.

I just recommend Samsung out of preference, they are usually cheaper than most other brands except BenQ. I recommended a 17" because a 17" Samsung should be about the same price as the 19" fujifilm LCD you were looking at.

Aside from that Samsungs have a good contrast ratio, and have a wide-viewing angle. Out of the three you are looking at, I would say the Samsung, because it has the highest-contrast ratio of of the three, the widest viewing angle, and sports a DVI port. The BenQ is cheaper, by a few bucks, but the point that hit me as a red flag was the 16.2 million colors with dithering. I can already see the some small gradient banding on my LCD that is 16.2 million colors, and if a screen needs to dither, it just makes it worse. If possible, get an LCD with a full 16.7 million colors.

Dude you are on the same wavelength as me I think. Yes I would also go for the Opty, they were out of stock everywhere, now I do see them in stock at some places for real good prices.

Wait a minute. You are going to purchase a 7800GT and you are talking about getting a 17" LCD? I would go with at least an 19" LCD. You will have plenty of "horsepower" to push any game at native resolution for the 19" LCD. The prices of 19" LCDs have dropped significantly over the last year making them very affordable. IMHO, you will enjoy the 19" LCD longer than you will the 17" LCD. By the time you get tired of the 19" LCD, the price of the larger LCDs will be much lower. Before you make your decision, go visit your local store and compare the 17" and 19" LCDs side-by-side.

If price were no concern, then I would be recommending LCD monitors greater than 20-inches. Maybe the Dell 2001FP, 2005FPW or the 2405FPW.

Remember, whichever LCD you decide to purchase, make sure it has a DVI input.

I'm going to look around for a good 19in LCD then Any suggestions as to where to start?

EDIT: a 20+ in LCD isn't to nice to my budget so.... I'm gonna stick with a 19in

Like I said before, purchase a 19" LCD from a well know manufacturer like Samsung, Viewsonic, NEC, BenQ, LG, Sony, or Dell. Read the reviews and search the threads in this forum (there are a ton of them). If you have questions about specific LCD monitors, post your questions in these forums.

If you reside in the United States, I would start with NewEgg and see what they have. For instance, they currently have this Patriot Signature memory for around $160 shipped. You can also try ZipZoomFly. Or, you can go to Pricewatch and do a search.

also is this good ram? its OCZ on sale:

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB)

Yes. OCZ makes good RAM. The OCZ RAM you linked to is not what I would consider "value RAM" but rather more of a "performance RAM" (note the lower latency).

All 17"-19" LCDs have the same native res., so you should go with a good quality 17" before a cheapie 19". Also, because they have the same res., the 17" has a higher spatial resolution (DPI). I would recommend Samsung, NEC, and Dell. I would avoid Benq because they use C grade panels. Many of the cheaper monitors out there may use the same panel as, say a Samsung 730B/NEC 1770GX but it will be a lower grade.

Go with the 460MHz card, u can OC the difference. As for the LCD, BUY THE 17"!! Its the same resolution as a 19"!!! Some good companies are Viewsonic, which is currently sitting on my desk, Samsung, or any other 17" LCD that u can find with a rebate. PM me if u have anymore LCD issues...
