I will say one thing about that Antec case... it's very well-built and it's one of the more quiet cases I've seen reviewed. Plus the PSU alone is worth $75 or so if you were to go out and buy it separately. It's ATX 2.01 with dual 12v rails and appears to have enough amps on all the rails to satisfy your proposed system's power requirements. I'd seriously take a look at buying that Sonata case. I'm very tempted to upgrade to it myself simply because I'm tired of how loud my current case is. Here's a review of it: http://www.futurelooks.com/?m=show&id=156

I was thinking for monitors, you might want to take a look at This
because it is basically the same panel as the Dell 2005FPW/Apple 20" LCD except at a lower MSRP. Costco had it cheaper at 379.99 before selling out. 4:3 screen is so 2004.

and for your case, you might want to go with Cooler Master Centurion 532 instead because it comes with your prequisite of having twin 120mm fans front and rear plus it also comes with a decent power supply (which I'm using at this moment on a Willamette 1.5@2.1Ghz with either a GF3 Ti 200 or a 9800Pro) that you can use for your future HTPC OR
if you are going with Micro ATX motherboard, you might want to check Cooler Master RC 540 Silver. It has 120mm fan up front (not included), a side intake funnel, and two 80mm fan mounting in the back. For 20 bucks more you get a decent 380Watt power supply. Just enough if you're not overclocking. You need the 430Watt version if you do.

All arrows is pointed to LG as the one that is having the best DVD/RW. I have Pioneer DVR-109A that i'm not really satisfied with because it's so picky with dvd blanks. LG is just a slight premium over NEC anyway but if you must have the cheapest one then go with NEC.

As far as fans, well for case fans, you don't really have a lot of options. If you are looking for the place to buy it, I would suggest you buy it off Silicon Valley Compucycle because their 120x120x38 Panaflos is on sale for less than five bucks (need a 3 pin tail though...less than a buck for that). BUT
if you want it nice and lighted, they're just about a buck more. I have the non LED version of that fan and it works well for me. Whatever you do, do not buy the Cooler Master ones because it is too slow (though quiet). Also, you want to get a fan controller so you can turn it down when you want super still quietness when you are watching something. SVC has plenty of choices for less than most other stores sell and their shipping is quite reasonable as well.

I agree with everyone else's CPU choice. Opteron 165 eventhough has a lower clock compared to 3800+ X2, it does have 1MB L2 cache which could be better than 512K on the 3800+. Now for the CPU fan, there are a lot of choices for the air cooling options, but my choices from best to just okay (there is no worst than this list really):
1. Thermalright's XP-120/SI-120 (SI adds nickel plated copper bottom) with that 5 bucks Panaflo because it's lighter than the rest 370g for XP/400g for SI. Plus it is more compatible with ANY MOTHERBOARD than any cooler out there. No headaches on whether your cooler ever gonna hit your precious capacitor or what not.
2. Zalman CPNS9500Cu-LED. Can't beat LED cooling fan for an open glass design case that you want/showing off what you have inside.
3. Thermaltake Big Typhoon. It's huge, it's heavy, it's copper and it works!
4. Thermaltake Silent Boost. Looks like they already came up with the replacement but at one time almost every AMD socket 754/939 swears by it and it's cheap too.

As far as Artic Silver 5 is concerned, The stock TIM would probably be okay, AS5 just a tad (if not drastically) better. Some people in this forum had gotten as much as 10 degrees cooler and there are some that got none at all or even worst but the success rate is far beyond 90% so don't take our word for it even when you're not OC'ing.

For memory:
These 2gb Super Talent kit (Infineon Chip) isn't that bad at all. Also, keep an eye on outpost.com because they had a sale on 2GB corsair value ram for 100 bucks after mail in rebate and 140 bucks before rebate.

2x1024MB of Patriot (PDP) RAM. I have it in my computer and it's awesome! I got 2GB for just over $150

I use it mostly for video encoding, HDTV recording, some gaming, and everyday tasks. It does all those pretty well.

I'm thinking of replacing the CPU with a dual core opteron and replacing the 2005FPw with the 2407wfp when it comes out

EDIT: i built my computer back in feb 2005. everything except the HDTV tuner card was bought in jan 2005.

and i too waited a long time to build it; i started researching in june 2004 and waited almost 7 months, but the day i built it, it was awesome

o and the reply that abs0lut3 made was nice and long but I have to comment on alot of stuff. But not now because I have to go for just a tad bit.

325 =3800 X2

Nice pick, you could even save a few bucks and get the opteron 165.

300 =7800GT

Nice, $280 from newegg from eVGA. I wouldn't touch other brands.

___ =2gigs of value ram. I donno what value ram to get:

Don't get value! G.Skill extreme is $197 and is awesome ram!

___ =I haven't decided on a mobo:\ Asus A8R-MVP, Abit AN8 Ultra, Epox 9NPA+ Ultra,
MSI Neo4-F

Epox 9NPA+ Ultra is my pick for budget systems.

115 =Seasonic 500W..? This mabe be overkill seeing that I'm not going to be OCing

It is *NOT* a good idea to skimp on a power supply. It is a common misconception that a PSU isn't very important. I'd buy the seasonic, once you get a good one it will carry over to future builds and your components won't have to deal with heavy electrical fluctuations.

$60 = Centurion 5

I've worked on an Antec SuperLanboy and an Antec P180 in the past month and I can honestly say a lot of the nice features you get with spending the big bucks, carry over to the less expensive Antec cases. ($40! See Hot Deals section if it is still available!)

100 =Seagate 250G Comments? Suggestions instead?

I'm a seagate guy. I've owned and reccomended seagate products for as long as I can remember. But, I've been extremely impressed with Western Digital lately. If you spend extra for one thing, upgrade to the WD4000YR. Its 400 Gigabytes and is designed almost exactly as the raptor, but 7200RPM.

___ =fans... suggestions?

Yate loons are always a favorite. It depends on your case and intentions.

___ =Monitor, um I plan on getting a LCD 17 or 19in thats good for gaming etc but not too expensive.

Not my area, but I do like Dells offerings of good LCDs at affordable prices.

First off I'd like to thank everyone that has helped me. I appreciate you all alot!

Second I'll just comment on what foodfightr posted. By the way thanks for such a nice post!

I'm getting the 3800 X2 because of the fact I'm not OCing and that its lower speed.

Why do I need G. Skill ram...? I don't plan to OC until three year warranty is gone and even then I don't plan to OC unless I have to.

I was just making sure on the PSU

I'm not sure what your thoughts on cases were. Can you clarify it a bit please?

I'll take a look at some WD HDDs but I don't think I need 400GB right now:

I've heard Yate loons are good also. I'm wondering then um how many does a person need?

I've picked out my LCD but since its been a bit since I last checked the prices on the LCDs I'm going to go and make sure I still want the 19in. that I had wanted before.

Thanks again!

Comments? Suggestions? Help? I'd appreciate it!

if ur gonna go with a silent PSU, it would be stupid to run any other fans in your tower, you might as well get a case with extremly good ventilation and run no fans.
also, about the hsf for the CPU, get artic cooling or zalman, the quite stuff.

if not, it defeats the purpose of even getting a silent PSU

The PSU I choose because of the quality or it.
This is my first build so I just want an easy case that I can build in and have a nice stabile system and mabe upgrade later on some stuff.

i would go for the epox mobo out of those

ocz or corsair value ram should be good

the seasonic is definitely overkill. a 400w or 450w fortron should be more than enough

why not get the Western Digital 16mb cache drive instead of the seagate?

no such thing as overkill on the psu!

get the best you can afford....do not skimp! as was said already....you will carry it into the next build, so go for the best now, you won't regret it!

i went for the pc power and cooling 510 sli and i am loving it!!

There is such a thing as overkill. A good quality 450 will power it with spare to go around, (hell a good quality 400W would do your rig). Wasting money on a 600W PSU is just that, a waste, when a good quality 450W will do the exact same job.
