Hi guys,

While I play COD MW, my PC randomly crashes usually after 30 to 40 minutes of playing and just reboots, sometimes it just freezes. Once it reboots then it goes on a trend of crashing and rebooting just after logging into windows which I find super wierd....My PC is running fully on default, no OC what so ever. I know for a fact that its not a temperature issue from CPU or GPU. I formatted my PC twice and the issue still persists.
There is a common problem regarding the COD MW crash however that doesn't justify why my PC goes on a crashing spree afterwards (sometimes though). I did notice something wierd from my MB, the clock keeps going backwards for a couple of hours.. now I believe that could be a battery issue but how could it be related to the occasional crashing. My other guess was related to sound issue. My headset is connected only by USB and believe it or not sometimes when there is an F-16 bomber plane goes by in the game, thats when it crashes lol....I also tested it in the Menu, sound settings, there is a button for sound test. When I chose between different sound modes (Dynamic home theater, Home theater, low or high base etc....) during the sound test it crashed as well. The game was not even running in the background.
btw all PC components are up to date to the latest manufacture drivers. (Bios, chipset, sound, wifi, LAN, GPU)
in your opinion where do you think the issue stems from? I went back to having it OC'ed, both CPU and GPU as per manufactures profile (XMP ez-oc setup) because thats how I used to have it when I used to play OW or COD BO4 and it never crashed....so now im just like GRRRRRRRRRRR

To be honest i dont think your system is stable in general because of this.

If it crashes just in MW COD, i would blame the publisher.
If its crashing just after logging into windows, its something beyond software, especially if your on default.

You might want to start a new thread here:

And see if someone can help you debug your PC's issue, which i am guessing could be on a few things, like bad ram, bad motherboard, or possibly bad PSU.

You would need to see in windows event viewer to see what crashed your system.

Seconded. All of those things are a possibility, in my mind. I'd test the RAM first, since that can be done pretty easily with MemTest64.

In addition, depending on the heat sink/fan situation you have on your CPU and the thermal paste type/application in use, you could be overheating, even at stock clocks. I had that happen on a build I did for a friend's family, in which we used a stock retail AMD heat sink/fan combo. They started having a lot of lockups, restarts, etc and we eventually replaced the heat sink and fan with a BIG aftermarket option with Arctic Silver thermal paste. No issues after installing that.

With that in mind, if your RAM stress test came back without error, and you have a confirmed good/working PSU, swap that out with the one you're using to see if that resolves your issues. If not, then I'd visually inspect the CPU heat sink/fan to see if anything looks amiss. If it looks like there could be an issue, you could remove, thoroughly clean the thermal paste off both the heat sink and CPU, reapply thermal paste and reinstall to see if that fixes your issue. If none of that works, replacing the motherboard would be the next step for me, since I don't know of any method for testing or troubleshooting a motherboard, so I'd have to defer to more experienced posters elsewhere on that.

Best of luck getting it figured out. Stability issues can be frustrating to troubleshoot. You'll feel all the more elated once you get things running smoothly again, though.

P.S. After checking back to your original post, since you've expressed that a lot of (maybe most or all?) crashes happen with sound issues, you could also try playing without the headset in question or disabling your headphones or sound card device to narrow down if it's a hardware/driver issue related to sound.

thank you for both of your feedback, definitely alot to try to weed out the issue. will start with the sound, maybe not using the astro a50s, but i have to say last night it crashed twice and the clock was reverted back to couple of hours behind like before... i had just changed it half an hour before that...so i changed the battery and it seemed to be more stable afterwards, this might have resolved the issue. i will keep you guys posted. thanks again!
btw my cooling is a liquid cooling NZXT kraken X62 and ive gotten great temperature constantly... who knows we’ll see...

Yeah my first thought is bad RAM, maybe just a single stick, so test all your sticks first.

This type of behavior happened to me many years ago, really only playing one game after an hour or so, same sort of crash. It was a ~ 1 year-old computer that didn't have issues until then. Turns out one of the sticks of memory was tossing errors, so essentially the system was running out of addressable memory or whatever when it was needed, and just crashed. ...and it's easy to find and replace, maybe for free from manufacturer if it is within warranty.

Next guess would be faulty PSU or maybe not properly installed? (I'm wondering if the GPU is fully plugged in, or even if the separate CPU jumper on the MB is populated)
