MY PC Died!!! :(

I cant friggin believe it.

I just put together this system a week before. Here are the specs below :

Athlon XP2000+ - 180$
Antec SX1030B SOHO Server with two Fans + One Thermal Take Fan
SPARKLE POWER FSP400-60GN ATX PSU

Samsung PC-2700 512 MB 5ns RAM

It was chugging along nicely before I went to sleep last night. Today morning he was all shut down. I tried the Power switch, not a peep. I first thought it was the power chord, tried it with my older one. No problem.

I unplugged all the connected devices one by one and tried pressing the power switch. I could see that the system turns on and then immediately shuts down again.

I then proceeded to open him up and I tried the same. I noticed that there was an "orange light" at the bottom of the Mobo (towards the battery) which comes on (there are two more lights next to it which are not lit, one red and one yellow - i dont know what their purpose is). When I press the power switch the Fans turn on and then after a split second the system shuts down again. I have no clue as to what the heck is happening.

Could anyone throw some light as to what the heck is happening ?

Have you tried a different PSU?

I usually find my PSU die more often than the PC itself.

Does the PC beep at all? That could give you hints as to what is wrong.

Nothing happens.. No beep. When I press the "Power On" button, both the lights come on, the fans pick up(hardly two seconds) and then a split second later, silence.. .

I put most of it together from Tech E's in Atlanta. Guess I have to head back there today.

reset bios.

1. I would check the manual for the status light..

2. Does the mobo have thermal protection ? if it does, maybe the cpu is overheating.. reseat the hs carefully..

I think it is the PSU from my experience. In fact, I just replaced mine 2 weeks ago. The PC was doing the same thing. Starts up, fans turn, light goes on for a split second and then nothing.

steps to diagnose you problem
1. find out what motherboard you have
2. find the manual
3. read the manual
4. interpret the written words on that manual
5. do something
6. come back here and ask for help

Wow that was a nasty PM there JohnnyPnuemonic. I sorry you got insulted by my agreeing with Mday but you wouldn't believe the people who won't read their manuals and then come here and ask for advice that is in the manual. So there you have it.
