I think Microsoft will continue to be very successful because it is reasonably good at adapting.
I think Microsoft will make a new OS but it won't be a new version of Windows as Windows 10 is the last version of Windows with mainstream support ending 2020 and extended support ending 2025. Microsoft will make a new OS called doors or something that fits in with Microsoft's naming schemes it will be both a successor to Windows NT and Windows CE as Windows CE has no proper successor. It will be built from the ground up and based on RTOS architecture. The main purpose would be to address problems intrinsic to Windows such as performance or 'bloat' issues, 'dll hell', registry and security problems to name a few. More of the os and its applications will be written in either new or existing Microsoft programming languages. Microsoft's new os will contain a sandboxed native copy of Windows for running Windows programs but avoid virtualization so performance issues aren't there as well as a sandboxed Windows CE. Plus sandboxing can keep Windows problems from affecting the rest if the system. This is similar to how the Windows subsystem for Linux works. Finally the new os will take advantage of modern hardware like higher processor cores counts, power savings features, new sensors, better VR intrgration or whatever new technologies come as well as better cross architecture support for x86, mips and ARM or whatever might replace those ISA's in the future.
Microsoft will make more services and applications available for linux as it becomes more popular. I dunno maybe we'll see office, OneDrive integration, or more Microsoft development tools. So even if people use Linux or some other platform they will still use Microsoft languages, development solutions, and services and Microsoft will continue to make money.
Microsoft will make a competitor to Adobe premiere, Lightworks, finalcut Nuke, Blackmagic and all the others. Microsoft's solution will offer most of the functionality of those solutions but will focus on ease of use and making compositing, VFX and video editing more accessible to the average user. There will also be an easy framework for plugin development based on Microsoft's tools and languages. It will also cost less than competitors.
Microsoft will also make a digital audio workstation/music program competitor to FL Studio, ableton live, bitwig and what have you. Similar to the video solution it will focus on bringing most of the functionality of its competitors with greater ease of use and lower cost. Like the video solution it will have a plugin framework that can developed with Microsoft tools and languages.
