my professor is a comedian. i am now famous in my class.

well this is a story about last wednesday actually.


so anyways, i am wandering around boelter hall, and decide to go to class since i wasnt finding much to do and hadnt gone to a particular one for a few lectures. i'm sitting in my class and well my cellphone goes off. anyways, for all of you now who will comment on cellphones , i forgot to turn it off and i usually dont since you dont get enough reception usually to get a signal (though signal strength has been getting better all year, so maybe they put up new cell sites i dunno). anyways, i am startled by the ringing since i was kinda half awake.


anyways this prof has a policy of taking your cell phone very quickly if it goes off, and putting it on his podium until the end of class. so he comes over as its ringing and takes it and doesnt give me a chance to turn if off (i just hung up on the call, didnt answer or anything). so i'm thinking, hope it doesnt ring again and damn i have to stay for all of class. he's pretty quick since its a small class like 30 people.

so it rings again (whats worse is its a friend of mine and she's cute, and well it could have gone pretty bad). so he answers my phone (i'm like wow didnt think he'd do this, and kinda embarassed). he says something like, hans is busy and in class, and cant talk. and that he'll take the message. my friend was really confused , btw she told me later. the whole class laughed , and well i thought it woulda been funny if it wasnt me. anyways, he hangs up. so he doesnt turn it off, and i'm sure he was hoping it'd ring again.



so it rings AGAIN. this time its my roomate. so my roomate asks if he can talk to hans, since its the wrong voice. so he tells my roomate i'm busy, and my roomate asks who he is. so he says he's hans' very very special friend. and people are laughing in unison, my roomate said it sounded like, it was a tv show, where there is an applause light or something. so he and my roomate carry on an actual conversation for a minute or two. the best was,

prof : "hans its your roomate"
me: " ok"
prof : " he wants to know if you are balling tonight"

me: (look on my face like, i dont care what you say)
prof to phone : "it doesnt seem like he's sure right now"
prof to me: "oh its vinay that called"
me: " uh huh"


mind you this is all in the middle of a lecture, and well at this point i was thinking it was pretty funny, so i'm actually smiling, since this was comic humor for my day.
anyways phone rings agian 10 minutes later. i dont evenmove or turn, since well i am just there like, bleh i dont care .


phone to prof: (i'm assuming) "is this hans"
prof: "no"
phone : "can i talk to hans its his dad"


so as this wouldnt be funny at all


prof : "hans its your dad and i'm gonna let you talk to him"
me : "thanks"
so i take the phoen and tell my dad i'm in my class

me : "my dad says i should turn off my cell phone in class"


so finally i get to turn if off. whats wierd, is that by the end i wasnt mad at all. i was entertained. and i had a new respect for this guy, he was like, in the name of fun and joking he entertained the class. its what he has been trying to do, since well he wants to get people involved. and well, i like this class more and will probably go more now. he's lucky i'm a really laid back guy, i heard some of the people in class talking afterwards about how they couldnt believe he'd do that and how mad they'd be.


oh well i was made an example of. i also missed his class today. haah

At my school, if your phone goes off you are expected to leave. Immediately. And you can't come back that day.

In my physics class last year (about 600 people), the prof kept getting pissed about cell phones... Finally, one rings and the professor is like, "Bring that to me!"

So the kid brings it.. and the prof's like "Answer it!"

so the kid does..

prof asks, "Who is it!?"

"It's my grandma." ... By this time, everyone that was awake was laughing their asses off.

The prof takes the phone and says, "Your grandson has been using his cell phone in class. Please tell him to learn to turn it off." so funny...



oh.. and my Digital Logic professor announced that he gets to throw a chaulk erasor at you if your cell phone goes off.. He said he never misses (he throws out candy - and he never misses).. He said that one year, the same guy's cell phone went off twice - so he had two chalk marks on his forehead.

We've had a kid in my physics class fall asleep and have his phone go off.

in high school, my friend wrote a program to page our other friend a few hundred times during a class. it took him about 30 pages before he finally put it on vibrate; we were rolling out of our seats with laughter because he had no idea who was paging him so much, and when the kind of out of it teacher asked what was happening we kept yelling "his gigapet is hungry, and he isn't feeding it! (this is a few years ago)" good times.
