My PSU probably died...how to be sure?

So I was away for 2 days, unplugged! my pc and when I came home and plugged it in again. When I press power button nothing. no fans, no led. nothing. I tried different outlets and disconnected the modular cable to no avail.

I checked the access point for measuring voltage on the motherboard. everything is 0. I wasn't sure that means anything. Should it show a voltage when PC is off? All modular cables also have 0 voltage.

I then googled and it mentioned if you test it outside of PC you need to short the power in pin with a ground pin using a wire or paper clip. So I did that. still, voltage was 0 on all cables.

So I can assume it just died? It was an expensive unit, enermax modu87+ (afaik from seasonic). Or did I mess up my testing? Just before I send it for RMA...still has warranty left.

If you're sure the power outlets you're plugging into are good, and shorting the green wire to a black wire on the 24 pin mainboard connector doesn't produce even a moment of fan spin or other sign of life, something probably expired inside.

BTW....I don't believe Seasonic had anything to do with your power supply's production, nor any Enermax for that matter.

yes except I used a voltmeter or however you call that instead of a fan. 0 voltage on all outlets.

The 5 volt standby rail is always on even when the computer is off. If you are not seeing voltages there, then something in the circuit for the 5VSB broke. Finding what actually died is a tedious and potentially dangerous task that involves a soldering iron and related equipment, along with replacement parts.

Send it to RMA and now got it pack (the same unit, can tell due to the cables being bend the same way) and it works again. RMA form does not specify what was fixed.

The downside being I was without my PC for about a month. Because there is no RMA department for enermax in my country, sending in the unit cost about half the price of a new, similar one...so it's debatable if it was worth it at all...
