my Quake 4 grip...

Hey Gamers
Ok, at first I was really, really impressed with the game, although now I am more upset at the game play then anything else.

It has got so frigg'n hard at times it has taken the fun out of it, I am playing on the "lieutenant" skill level as I consider myself a pretty good FPS player.

But man-o-man, this is rediculous. I'm guessing I am nearing the end as my new assignment is to destroy the 'Nexus core' (I think its called Nexus) anway, it got real hard about 4-levels before actually.

It's now got to the point where I enter a room and all of the real-hard-monsters that were hard just by themselves are in almost everyroom...arggggggggggggg!!

It's definitely lost some of its greatness that it had over me well, the visuals are superb. Maybe I should have played on the skill level which is right under the "lieutenant"
level..I must be getting wussy at my old age

I dont have the game but maybe there is a trick to killing those "really hard monsters" which would make it easier. Maybe try out different weapons and such

Quicksave and Quickload are your friends. Learn it, love it.

Room w/ lots of big baddies = grenade launcher and rockets and Dark Matter Gun are your friends. Dont be a cheapo and try to take them on with a rifle. Use the door as cover if needed. And oh yea, games are not nearly hard enough as they should be nowadays. I'm sure you just blast them enough they're gonna die. Not much strategy to actually make it hard.

Is the 3rd difficulty leuitenant? If so, that is what I played also. Second hardest. And to tell you the truth, it gave me some trouble at a few parts. I had to reload like 10 times at the boss due to one of the bad guys constantly railing me everytime I ran out.

So yea, if that is 3rd difficulty, don't expect a cake walk.

Thats' why I hate the Q4 SP experience.

Even in the easiest settings, sometimes I have to save/load 10 times to get through one part of the game.

Hell I'm even stuck in the first levels right now.

Everytime this kinda event happens, It makes me hate a game.

FEAR was super easy at the easy level, and super hard with hard settings. THAT is good difficulty scaling.

With Quake 4, it's not hard because the AI is hot, it's just hard because there is too much stupid bots to fights at the same time !

reloading isn't a bad thing you know. I'd rather play at a difficulty setting that challenges me, resulting in some tough parts that require reloads (sometimes upwards of a dozen times like with Farcry on realistic), than play through a game hardly touching the load command. I mean, it can get ridiculous though I can't take reloading more than a dozen or so times bfore I have to leave the game and try another day.

Ever play Ninja Gaiden? I don't have a console but played on a friend's. Man, that's a rough game. In fact, i've noticed a lot of console sp games are more difficult than pc sp games. Consolers seem to shrug off reloading easier than pc'ers, ime.

Which is funny because anyone who plays console games knows that reloading on a console is not an "F9" event, it is a "hit the power button, wait for the game to reload, choose your saved game, and then wait for the saved game to load" event. Hehe.

I'm finding the same thing. I normally play all fps games on hard, but Quake 4's easy setting is like any other fps game's hard! It takes so much damn ammo to kill some enemies.

What i find happens a lot is i'll be ambushed by a bunch of enemies, and i'm forced to backtrack while shooting the enemies, but i don't know the level so i don't know exactly where to back track to and i'll get stuck and they rush me. I only have a chance when i've reloaded a couple times and know the area and where the enemies are coming from. It's annoying because you hardly have any room to manuver.

man i think the bots are pretty easy i play at the liutenant diff as well..

4 me use the right gun 4 the right monster.. it works.. and quicksave/quickload also helps a lot..

My biggest gripe with the game is that it does not support more than 16 player CTF. Everyone knows that the most fun CTF games have big maps and at least 32 players.
