My questions before i do the "big" install this weekend of win2k:

1.Will win2k have drivers for my sblive value or do i have to get win2k ones?
2.Can i format, and bootup with a win98 startup disk with cdrom support, and just use tha cd and run setup.exe?
3.Is it good to have all the drivers before u start installation, or will windows have them?
4.Where can i get the latest via 4 in ones...and wtf are they?
5.Where can i get the latest promise ATA100 driver for my A7V?
6.Any tips or suggestions before i install win2k?
7.IS Fat32 fine for win2k?

1. yes
2. Yes...but why not boot off the cd?
3. Windows will have some drivers, but its always a good idea to have your modem/nic drivers in case they aren't there so you can download other drivers.
4. Here
5. here
6. Save your porn before formatting, its a bitch downloading it all again.
7. Yes

1: Win2K indeed does have drivers for your sblive. You'll want to get the real deal from Creative though. Tip, you don't need the full liveware cycle sucking resource pig install, you can dl just the drivers.
2: You can boot up with a 98 statrup disk, but you should use the win2k cd-rom. you'll have the option to zap and format your partition before you install = faster
3: It is very good to have all the drivers before you start your install. Particularly your modem drivers on floppy in case you can't access a disk on your ATA 100 controller. You may want to get on line in case you forgot something
4: The via 4 in ones are chipset drivers for your motherboard, Win2K will need them to make full use out of your mobo. Get them from your motherboard manufacturers web site
5: www.asus.com should have what you're looking for
6: Check your software for compatability with win2k, check your drivers, check your hardware. Back up your email, address book and work ( and saved games of course) After you install copy i386 to your c: drive
7: fat32 is fine under win2k, but why would you want it. Make c: NTFS and any other partitions can be left as fat32

the main reason it would be nice to leave it in FAT32 is so you can resize it easily. PM doesnt support NTFS5 which kinda sucks... Only thing I dont know about is how performance would change. it might impact it in some way. also I dont know how it would affect file permissions and the like.

I'm about to do a similar install this weekend. Being a longtime Win95/98 user, I'm a total newbie when it comes to Win2k/NT. If I decide to do a dual boot OS, is the size of my paritions a concern? I have an IBM 75 GXP 45 gig HD, and I want to have c: as Win98SE and d: as Win2k...each being a 10 gig partition, and the remainder being 5 gig ones to equal 45 gigs. Is it also advisable to partition under Win2k boot CDROM before doing a fresh install of Win98SE? Any help will be appreciated.

2) If you really want to use a boot disk to install, you might as well use the official one that's included on the CD. I don't remember what folder you can find it in on the CD ("Extras" or something?), but essentially it's an .exe file that creates a boot/setup disk (well, four to be exact). Seems to work pretty well though.
