I recently built my new computer (essential parts for this situation):
Soltek SL-K8TPRO-939: http://www.soltek.de/soltek/product/products_all.php?isbn_st=SL-K8T-939FL
W Digital 80gb SATA (WD800JD): http://westerndigital.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=83
Athlon64 3000
Zalman 7000B HSF
Corsair PC3200 512mb Value Select RAM
Thermaltake 420w PSU
I've got WinXP Pro. I setup up my hard drive on RAID 0+1. Here's a breakdown of what's gone on today:
I began overclocking. First set my FSB to 230 (default 9x multiplier), reset did stress/heat tests. Came back to the tutorial, and realized that I missed the step to set my memory divider to 100mhz (to find the max of your CPU power). So I did that, and increased my FSB to 235mhz. When Windows loaded up, after about 15 seconds, Windows just froze up. So I reset the computer, did the same thing again. So I lowered the FSB to 230, and was getting the same crap. I did another reset, and got a blue screen error (right after BIOS loaded) that dispalyed my video card driver (9600xt). I reset my computer, it worked, then it froze again. Realized that I didn't set my memory divider back to 200mhz. I decided screw it, and just reset the CMOS.
My computer reset, and after the BIOS loaded I got another blue screen error. This time, it couldn't detect/read my hard drive. Reset a few times, kept saying it. I tried putting in my WinXP CD, and when I tried to install Windows, but it said that it couldn't detect a hard drive. I made an MS-DOS boot disk, and tried to go to the C: drive, but it said that is was an invalid drive. Then I tried "fdisk /mbr", but I don't think it's going to do much when I'm under A:\. I also noticed that in the BIOS load-up, the screen that says "hit cltr-f" (which I used to set up my RAID) no longer comes up. There is another screen that says I can hit TAB to go to the New User Window. I hit it, and it goes to a screen where I can set up my RAID array, but, I can't move up and down or select anything, just exit.
I'm at a big loss. All of my cables are firmly in place. I'm thinking of RMAing my hard drive, but since that RAID setup screen in the BIOS doesn't come up, I think there could be problems with the motherboard.
