I would love to have that.

anything above 60 is too hot

Back when I was dorming, the windows were wide open in the winter with the AC pumping. I think it was like 45-55 on the average.
Everyone of my suite mates walked around in shorts and tshirt

I live up in North Dakota where we get common temps that range from -25F or colder in the winters and up into the 100s in the summers. Humidity is all over the place. I exercise regularly and do not consider myself to be large or 'fat' for my frame.

In the summers, I personally like it warm when I sleep at around 75-78F. My roommates like it a bit cooler at around 70F, so I just close the vent to my room at night. We live in a 3 bedroom apartment with central air, if that matters.

In the winters, I do like it to be on the cool side around 65 or 68 all the time. That way it's not such a shock when you go outside.

This. Temp set to 66-67 while awake and 59 while sleeping or not at home (in the winter, of course).

Same.. Nothing better.

I'll close the window when it gets down into the 40s.

First of all... wow, you get to set your thermostat. Second: wow, you actually have AC.

Okay, now that I've gotten over my shock at such an easy lifestyle on campuses these days, let me just add my 2 cents.

If you sleep closer to the vents than anyone else have them change beds with you. If that doesn't work, set fire to their sheets.

space heater would have been the easiest way to get over this. now youve damaged/ vandalized school property and could get busted for it.

tell that to people in arizona. my house never gets colder than 78 in the summer and never colder than 72 in the winter. even outside its rarely cold, thats what we are used to. sleeping in 65 degrees is totally uncomfortable when youre used to warm weather.

that said, i love sleeping with the windows open in the winter, wish i could still do that and not use a heater at all, but my kids would freeze. they are accustomed to warm, not cold.

WTF? Our thermostat is set at 78 degrees Fahrenheit pretty much all year round. I'd freeze my ass of at 65 degrees.

I keep the auto climate control in my car at 72 all year round.

summer 78 is our thermostat. You learn to deal with higher temps when living in the desert

As for the winter, 65 is a tad chilly for me. 68 is better.

Get a space heater, electric blanket.

Anything higher than 68 and I can't function in the day. Higher than 68 at night, I will not sleep.

Or, you can superglue your thermostat to 72 and be done with it, which is what a guy on my floor did.

Alright! I combined these ideas into ONE!

I set the thermostat to 72. Then, I took apart the assembly and super glued the variable resistor (temperature control) to its current position. Then, I clipped off the stem on the plastic dial, turned it a few degrees, then super glued it back on. Once everything was assembled again, the dial falls into place at what looks like 65 degrees, but the resistor is actually "set" for 72 degrees. Even better, if they try to set it to a different temperature, it just snaps back to "65", which is actually 72.

Thank you ATOT, you have given me ideas to pwn my room mates. Aside from the thermostat thing, they actually are huge jerks, so I don't feel bad.

Nice work. LOL.

And, here I was going to tell him to try a knit cap. Tons of heat are lost from the head.

Well I mean... They say 70 is fine, I like 75, so I'm trying to push for 70.

I got some REALLY THICK comforters just because of this... Like I said, my face gets too cold and I wake up very frequently. I've skipped some classes just cuz I was able to raise the temp and actually get some sleep.

I probably won't win, oh well. I'll take a look at the thermostat and see if I can do what Hyperlite said.
Wow..you are definatly a strange one. 75 at all times? Thats just wierd....
Sounds about like me, though when it gets cold in the winter, I would prefer it closer to 80. If my apartment was better insulated than a nude, sweaty biker, who was anodized black, in Antarctica, I wouldn't have any problem doing that. Damn ancient construction.

If it gets much below 70°F, my hands start to get cold to the point of being numb. Oddly enough, they actually get a few degrees cooler than room temperature.
I was working on something in a cold lab on campus, wearing a jacket even, and there were some thermocouples sitting out on a table for an experiment in the next class. They'd reached equilibrium temp, and were there for quite some time. So I figured I'd see how cold my hands really were, by touching a thermocouple. It registered an instant drop of 2°C.

The laws of thermodynamics hate me.

OP: Try sleeping on a comforter, too. If you've got insulation on two sides, that might help.
Also, for buying comforters, check out the clearance section of retail stores. The Kmart store near me loves to have clearance sales, and some of them start to get really low. I bought two $50 comforters for $10 each.

I can't sleep in the summer because its too hot and too expensive to use AC, this week is finally awesome sleeping weather, no heat or a/c, sleep with the window open, overnight lows around 40, Love it. We almost never use heat, except in jan/feb when its below zero (yay for michigan).

For the OP, its probably the dry air that's bothering you more than the temp with regard to the sore throat/cough. buy a humidifier.
