Just the Assault should land her in jail for a while. Of course then you have to appear in court. It would depend what you want to do. Just removing yourself from the location is probably best in the longrun. Still you could have gone to the emergency room for your hand and sent her the medical bills. But if it was mostly superficial it may not be worth it. On the good side you at least have a back-up plan and a place to go, where she may not have a good place to go. Electric rates have been kind of skyrocketing up lately.

There is probably some department or office that you can report her to. There are laws that govern the treatment of tenants by landlords. She probably broke several laws that you might not be aware of. i.e. Breaking and Entering. Destruction of your Property, Assault, Harrassment, Disturbing the peace, etc. Plus there are legal requirement required to inform you of her intent to kick you out of your written or unwritten lease agreement. Then I wonder if she is reporting the lease arrangement to the IRS as profit, or even claiming the her house or your apartment as a rental property. There could be certain upkeep and business deductions she could legally take.

She really needs to see a counselor to learn to control her anger. That is not good for the baby.

Yup. 1/6 of the total.

Well, it depends on when the electricity billing period started. They don't always start on the first of the month.

yeah, no need to fuck her over that way. fi you were to drag this thing to the courts, and think you'd be in big trouble. fake hippie girls (even real hippie girls) tend to be the spoiled children of very wealthy parents. she prolly has lawyers. and it will prolly cost you a shit load of cash if the cops/courts get involved.

of course, bringing the weed with tangible proof into this could tip things in your favor, but that won't be an easy ride....

Domestic violence / assault case. He doesn't need a lawyer, as the state will prosecute.

I think he is doing the right thing not calling the cops. They have been friends for years and she flips out this one time when she is pregnant. If you call the police every time a pregnant woman loses it you are going to be some very lonely guys.

Does she have anything on you?

I just don't think that her pushing me over and kicking the door open is worth it. I've never been a big fan of the police, and I'd rather jsut pack everything, get out, and never see her again. I already have the security deposit and a check for half the month's rent, so I'm pretty much all set.

She doesn't have anything at all on me.

Dealing is still a felony.

Could you still get in trouble, knowing she possesed it or was selling it? i don't know how the law works in a situation like that.

I had the greatest roommate who ever lived. He handled all of the bills and gave each of us itemized lists each month. He cooked, cleaned, cut the grass and had a big screen tv. I was sad to see him get married.

Wow. This is why no one should get upset with anyone on the Internet, you could be talking to the OP!

What if you were selling dope and beating women, you would be in jail as well.

While it might be the right thing to call the police I'd say the smart thing to do is exactly what the OP is doing, getting out while the gettings good!

If the police get involved theres no telling what the result might be, up to & including him being arrested for domestic violence when she lies about what happened & possibly even being implicated in her drug dealing.

My advice is leave & don't look back.

Uhh, the OP is the one with cuts and bruises. Unless she goes and stabs herself now there's a pretty good chance the OP will be safe.

I read the thread & I stand by my advice ... all she has to do is claim self-defense & theres a very good chance the police will take her side, fair or not.

Life if full of things worth fighting for & IMO this simply isn't one ot them.

The police aren't supposed to 'take sides'. If she claims self-defense and claims that he hit her first, why does she have no visible injury, and why didn't she report it first? That's one reason I strongly recommend that he report it - if something else happens down the road, he'd be much better off having this documented.

couldn't he still notify the police and just not press charges? my sister's bf beat her up twice and she called the police but never pressed charges (she's a complete moron and is still with this idiot, which is a whole other topic).

It sounds like you and dad need to pay him a little visit.

lmao i laugh at the stupidity in this thread.
dealing pot = a horrible mother

you people have no clue how many people have raised children and been potheads. Dealing pot is something typically for the young, for extra cash.. they tend to get out of that as they age, but don't necessarily ditch the pot itself. It's not something I'd be worried about.

Personally, the fact that she quit everything, to me proves that she is a capable mother as of now. Wait until the child arrives and see how much her habits, if she picks them back up, have an effect on her parenting abilities. It doesn't necessarily mean she will be a bad mother if she smokes and deals out dimes. That's petty dealing.

Haha seriously. The "OMG she's going to raise her kids on drugs who KNOWS what she'll get into call the cops helppppppp!" crowd has me in stitches.

wouldn't do any good. they're both too stupid and in his case, drunk or drugged up, to make a difference. it owuld only cause more problems for the rest of my family, because his whole family and friends would come for revenge, and they're the kind of people that would do a lot more than ruff you up a little bit.

let's see here, pregnant woman, no daddy, roommate stress. sure, tell me who you think the courts will side with. You must be pretty damn young--do you actually consider this domestic violence. The courts, judge, jury will all see this (assuming they are adults) as a stressed-out pregmant woman with a lot of shit on her plate.

OP even said she was a cool/normal chick before the preggers. the situation is pretty clear to those with life experience reading this thread.

and there is a double standard regarding abuse b/w men and women. and you know what? who gives a shit. grow a pair and deal with it. The OP is making the right decision here. It's his responsibility to take care of himself. It's his roommate's responsibility to look out for her and her baby's best interests.

state will prosecute. HAHAHAHA. him, maybe...

again, bringing up the pot issue MIGHT change things, but it will be a mess.

yeah, don't get her in trouble man, the last thing she needs right now is to be in jail......... listen, I know alot of these people are telling you to call the cops, and normally in this situation that'd be warranted, but pregnancy/hormones really does f*%k people up mentally, especially when they need to give up all their vices........ A close friend of mine when pregnant a couple of years ago, was sitting next to me on the couch and she kind of had herself wrapped around me, two seconds later we're on the floor, she's on top of me and trying to tear my face off or something, absolutely no provocation at all, she just got pissed at something random and attacked me........................ By the end I was all scratched up and bleeding, and I actually had to grab her boob to get her to stop (tender lactating boobies FTW, kind of like kicking a guy in the nuts).................... but it ended there, I wasn't going to make things worse by calling the popo......... and now that she's no longer pregnant, she's just as cool as ever....................... if your roomie flies into these rages often though, she should be checked for gestational diabetes, blood sugar swings can also cause uncontrolled rage............. that's what my friend ended up having............

EXACTLY. any cops/court will see it this way (except maybe in Texas). She's gone cold Turkey on all of her vices, which will be seen as a plus on her character--on top of that the pregnancy.

Don't listen to the people here who:

1) have never known an addict
2) have never known a recovering addict
3) have no experience with pregnant women (let alone women...this is AT )
4) and think that this is serious abuse--as apposed to a stressed-out/crazy bitch

just GTFO of the apartment, and let her go her way.

Hmm I might be somewhat liable. Party to a crime or something.

I can't believe you're just passing this off as "pregnant rage" or some shit. Girls get enough built in excuses to act like psychotic freaks, being preggo is no excuse for assaulting you. If you don't care, fine, but don't mark it down as some completely understandable pregnant lady foible.

Well, all I know is from now on I'm just going to take off running whenever I see a pregnant woman.
