My SB Live experience

This thing won't be bothering me, or anyone else, anymore!

There is zero support for this stupid CT4830 model card, and that just pisses me off. Not to mention it blue screened my PC when I installed it.

Good riddance, you POS.

Yeah, I kind of felt like doing that to mine a couple times but instead I gave it to a friend who had integrated sound.

That's cool, except that would not work in this case. you CANNOT get drivers anywhere that work with the CT4830 model. Trust me, I tried

They said Liveware 3.0 would work with it.. it blue screened and crashed my computer after I finally found it. That was the last straw

I now know why I had this thing just tucked in a drawer for so long.

Did you try the kx drivers and such? (don't know why I'm asking)

Yep, they're the drivers.
Try downloading them.

A: The CT4830 and CT4832 are almost identical cards with different PCI IDs (as programmed into the onboard EEPROM). A CT4832 card is generally an OEM version of the CT4830, although both cards might be marked as 'CT4830'. Neither kX Audio driver performance nor sound quality are affected by the way in which these cards are recognized by kX (the same applies to SB0090/SB0092 and SB0220/SB0222 cards).

i have the same card. it had some problem not being recognized, but then i gave the golden lead's (the part where you plug into the mobo) a good wipe, and it's been working flawlessly since then. sure beats the crap out of my on-board sound if you ask me.

Never been a Creative lover, but this 24bit SBLive on my MSI K8N SLI is the 1st integrated solution to have me not missing SoundStorm :beer: The older SBLive like your's I used to owned left me underwhelmed, and I quickly sold it.

Yes there are drivers for it (ct4830, 4 channel), I just dropped one into my gfs comp (winMe). Runs fine in quad mode. but I give you a+ for neatness on how you broke it so evenly

yeah... thats an A++ for a clean, even snap into two pieces..

If I would have tried that, it would have shattered..

The Live card should work fine and there are driver patches although you still need the cd.

The problem is the snap crackle and pop pci bus issues with the live series especially on VIA chipsets.

I have that card (4 channel). Mine cant play CD's without making terrible popping noises constantly and making the song speed up and slow down. (Doesn't do this with MP3's, WMA's or anything else stored on harddrive). Just when its a basic store bought audio CD. Maybe I'll give those drivers a shot.

Bet the popping noise isnt as nasty sounding as the OPs card made when he "fixed" it lol.

What OS are you using? My gfs CT 4830 card plays CDs fine.

I have located the problem. Its the drivers that came with the card. When I let Windows install its own, CD's play fine but I dont get 4.1 support. When I put in the SB CD, It takes 5 minutes to get the disc to the install screen. It then goes to the installation. It installs 1 set of files, and then waits 5 minutes for the CD drive to spin down completely and then begins ripping another set of files so on and so forth. After the drivers are installed it goes back to skipping and stuff on CDs while playing 4.1 EAX on COD flawlessly. This is wierd because when I got the card it installed just fine off of the CD. I also came across an interesting find. Different chip numbers.

The chip on the card: 5880
The writing on the board: 4750
What I thought the card was: 4830

WTF??? Anytime I install the Live Drivers from Creative's support center, It merely throws up an error saying that that it couldn't find a Sound Blaster Card in my system. This is thoroughly frustrating

By the way CripsyFried I use Windows XP Home

oh yea...and that sound card.....OUCH. i'd rather give it to the goodwill or something than break a piece of equipment like that.
