be prepared to spend more than $6500 in repairs in about one year.

The thing that people dont realize about these trucks (by these I mean Dodge specifically) is that they cost a CRAP load in maintenance due to their low reliability.

This is why they are so cheap to buy.

My buddy bought a duelly duramax for what we all thought was a decent price. He has now spent well over $150,000 just to keep the truck going (retarded isnt it), and the truck isnt even worth $10,000. He was paying installments - couldnt make the installments, had his parents buy the debt so that he could manage it through them, but is still struggling to keep up with the costs. We tell him over and over again, sell the truck, take the loss, and save yourself now before its too late (as if its not already), but he doesnt listen - he loves his $150,000 truck. Power to him I guess.

Wow a $150k to fix a truck, and you are talking about Dodge's specifically so you decided to bring up a Chevy (diesel) Duramax as an example of how unreliable a Dodge gas powered trucks are....

Keep talking I'm taking notes.

You must be out of your mind:
.

Also I'm sure those 3 leafs in the back make it ride like airride caddy.

What's wrong with that interior? Looks great to me and the seats are amazing. Heated and air cooled. Do you have that in your car?

You really need to drive a 2011 f150 before you comment on the ride.

bah!, I must have brainfarted. My dads truck is a duramax... I meant Cummins. He has a Dodge 3500 Cummins.
And its not $150,000 all at once either - over the course of the past 6-7 years. I suppose that figure would also include the interest from financing, come to think of it.

This is all second hand from what he has told me. Its not like its my truck and I know all the intricate details, Im just relaying what Ive been told.

i used to hate anything ford too, until my brother bought an F150 and let me drive it around for a couple weeks. Completely opened my eyes to Ford built vehicles.

haha, the same way that i let him drive my MR2 for a day and it changed his mind about how 'gay' it was.

So he spends 21 THOUSAND a year to purchase and maintain the truck? Bullshit, plain and simple.

Leaf springs are fine unless they're arched too much. Have you driven a modern truck? I had a Chevy Colorado rental last year and it was incredible.

With double wishbones sprung by torsion bars in front and the leaf sprung solid axle it rode great. Most cars actually have inferior MacPherson struts while every pickup has double wishbones up front.

If I could afford one I'd buy a used Colorado/Canyon for my next vehicle. They get about 25mpg with the 2.9L I4 and manual transmission.

its not. its crazy

Truck costs 40,260 with average incentives. With 5% interest on a four year note he will pay $44,503.65. Lets assume he drives 25k miles a year, that means warranty for 4 years of driving.

So you expect me to believe in 2-3 years he spent $105,496, or $35,165.45 a year in repairing his truck?

Not buying it. Even if it was true it has nothing to do with the truck OP purchased.

BS. You could replace the engine, transmission, both axles and the entire body once a year for about 5 years and not hit that cost. Trust me, I should know since I beat the hell out of my dodge 2500, and have replaced quite a bit of it. By beat the hell out of, I mean I have had my truck 10' in the air, stood nearly vertical on it's bumper, been up to the windows in mud, done burnouts until tires blew out, pulled down trees, driven though 5' snow drifts at insane speeds, ran over trees, and towed up to 40 tons. Have I done repairs? Hell yea, but nowhere near as many as I have expected (besides 1 instance, which I couldn't control).

I have had the truck for just over 10 years, and I have spent just over $75 per month on repairs and upkeep, even though I beat the living hell out of it. It has taken my abuse way better than any other vehicle I have ever had, and kept coming back for more. My first 4 vehicles lasted almost to their 2nd oil change, my 5th lasted almost 8k miles, and this truck has lasted almost 50k miles. <3 my truck. There is something about blipping the throttle around a corner and kicking the ass end out that I love, and will never outgrow. The only thing I don't like about it is the gas mileage of about 6 MPG.

I am actually working on my bumper ATM. I pulled it off the truck, and am working on stripping and repainting it. A car ran into me when I stopped in the snow during the winter, and broke my license plate light and scratched the paint on the bumper. The car had to be towed away though, so sucks to be them. I also noticed some rust in the bumper from the salt this year when I was replacing the light, and the trailer connector was getting corroded, so I figured it was time to clean it up.

Those Cummins RAM 4x4's are tanks.
I've personally never known anyone to hate their Dodge truck.... I've had friends with Rams and Dakotas and they are all solid.
I have no idea where this "Dodge trucks suck" crap comes from...... They're all I would buy if I were in the market. Which with given gas prices will sadly likely never happen.

Dodge just has a bad rep. I don't believe they are inferior to chevy or ford. I did not even look at buying a dodge though when I bought my new truck. Not because of reliability issues but strictly resale value. You can buy a used dodge for nothing and that's great unless you are the one who bought it new.

A buddy of mine hates (er, hated..he has a Silverado now) his Dodge, but it was a Dakota, not a full size.

Avoid the Colorado like the plague. I was very unimpressed with the one I just got rid of. Brakes are very weak especially if you are loaded or towing a small trailer. Had a couple of electrical issues too. Some wiring just shorted itself out somehow and truck wouldn't start, driving down the highway the wipers would just come on out of nowhere, and there was also a recall on the brake lamps where theyd just completely stop working even though I never had that issue. Seat belt strap stopped pulling itself back in half the time. Seat also became uncomfortably worn to the point it was hurting my back driving the truck. This was all within 40k miles 3 years. I had the 2.9L 4 banger and it was a decent motor I'll admit. Gas mileage was pretty decent too.

Take some vids/pics & share them here. This would be awesome to watch!

Here's an old pic from before I built the rear bumper and put the winch on it. I am high centered, none of the tires are actually on the ground at this point. It had 33x11.50 thornbirds on the rear in this pic, but not the front. The reason there are not thornbirds on the front is because I was going 'fast' on the expressway to get to this location, and both of the front thornbirds had the tread delaminate at speed. I drove on them until I got to a tire store because they still had air

Here's a thread from a snowstorm this year in Chicago, but no pics. I know I have some somewhere tho. I remember taking one of a metra train going by while I am behind the gate.

Holy crap; that's insane.

No kidding. My car has some problems

Needs a rear bumper cover
Needs a passenger side half-shaft
Paint is messed up on the roof/hood
Has a few dings and dents
Door locks are weird
One of the drivers seat power motors is locked up

but it runs great, has a new radiator and motor mounts, and hasn't failed on me yet. I'd think it was worth about $2000.

It goes without saying that your friend didn't spend anything close to even a quarter of $150k fixing any truck over that time period, but I am not sure if you're really bad at sarcasm, lying to us, or just incredibly confused and actually believe your buddy.

Personally I'm not a Dodge fan or even a Dodge truck fan but from everything I've read and hear the Dodge Cummins Diesel is one of the best if not the best diesel engines made.

When we bought our 05 Dodge was at the bottom of my list but at that time I thought the Silverado just sat too low and had bland styling, the Nissan Titan was stout but it sounded very meek and the interior was bland. The Dodge won us over because it had a great rumble coming from the Hemi and it had a good stance (interior was bland).

Right now if I could justify buying new and price was no issue I would lean towards a Tundra, even though I haven't driven one.
