Totaled as in beyond repair, or as in did more damage than the car is worth? I got rearended in my Ranger years ago, and all it did was dent the tailgate and ripple one of the rear quarter panels. But the truck was 10 years old, so insurance estimated the cost of fixing the damage to be more money than the truck was worth. So they totaled it.

Nate

well, one car was almost brand new, and the other was only a couple years old. so i'm guessing they were pretty much beyond repair. radiator pushed into the windshield type damage.

Common sense FTW. Tell her to focus on driving. That means turning off your cell phones, not eating, not playing with the radio/nav, etc if she can't handle it.
never messes with cell phones, food, or the radio in the car. she has the attention span of a gopher on speed, however.

Yeah, they will keep her. No DUI or drugs? They won't kick her off yet. Possibly put her on high risk. Does she have traffic tickets? Age?
other than the tickets that typically accompany accidents, no tickets, no dui, no drugs.

she'd probably be better off moving to new york where she would never have to set foot inside a car again if she didn't want to, but she's got socialization problems and such a move would be hell for her.

Wow, now I don't feel so bad for my sister anymore. She was involved in 3 accidents (all her fault) in about the same time and her insurance skyrocketed to like $3000+ per year. My parents are still paying her insurance so when she got into her last accident, they were pissed as hell. She (while completely sober) got into an accident and managed to total her car but what makes this accident so bad is that there was no one else on the road with her. Insurance companies should increase the premium automatically if the applicant checks off F instead of M.

Well, maybe in the US women are different, but here insurance is cheaper for women because they cause fewer and also less severe accidents (i.e. mostly parking dents)

I'm moving to Germany.

Women cause multiple little accidents. "Oops, I didn't see the car directly behind/beside me." "Oops, I took your mirror off because I have no spatial perception."

Men, OTOH, cause no accidents for a long time - then a single massive one to make up for it. "Aww hellz yeah, I'm doing 120mph!" *slams into embankment, rolls over three times, bursts into flames* *driver jumps out still on fire* "WOOOOOOO! YEAAHHHH!"

Tell her to get married. I heard married women got cheaper car insurance. I would assume they become more responsible drivers since they got a discount after they get married.

I mean, a 250 pounds driver would make any car more stable.

On a serious note, my car insurance cut me off after my son totaled our Cavalier and rolled the Tracker.

Yah but insurance companies hate young males. Be happy that he didn't take anyone with him.

There was a lawsuit a while ago where a kid in his parents mustang t-boned a minivan. Long story short, he was sucessfully sued for 6 million dollars total. His liability covered 1 of it. He bankrupted himself, and he destroyed the lives of his parents as well since he was covered under their insurance. They courts took everything they had.

Long story short, when your kid is that reckless of a driver. Lay down the law, totaling your car should have been the last time he drove under your insurance.

My sister doesn't total them, just smashes into inanimate objects. She's also a fan of getting her cars repossessed. 2 repoed in 2.5 years.

Ouch... The kid probably doesn't a penny in his name. :| His parent lives are ruins because of his reckless.

yup. women are negligent drivers. men are reckless drivers. a subtle, but very consequential difference.

Being a hot chick can help you with a lot of things, but being insurable isn't one of them.

Ah, but having pics (and being a hot chick) will definately help you to get advice on ATOT.

Exactly,
I mean when I was under my parents insurance, if I had understood this, I would have been off of it sooner.

My parents raised me, I don't need to bankrupt them to return the favor.

Why would you want to drive if you have had multiple wrecks? Yes, getting from point A to B is necessary, but come on, if you're a piss poor driver, don't you realize that yet? If you don't, wouldn't your family care enough to insist that you stop driving until you wise up?
