Hmm ... I got a 1300-something back in 7th grade. I just remember getting an award for scoring a 760 on verbal or thereabouts.

Makes me wonder why I'm in engineering right now <_<. And struggling.

We are pretty excited for him.

Just shows how bad the american high school education system is these days

Not to ruin your pride or anything but thats not something to brag about. The average high school ACT is probably around what your son got and the average hs student is dumb as a brick these days.

I dare you go up to a normal high school student and ask them what a differential equation is. I bet they wouldn't even know what subject is belonged in let alone what its suppose to solve. Ask them who won the Korean War and they'd probably answer the US which is technically wrong as the war is still on-going. Ask them anything about the Mid-east and you'll probably get a blank stare. Ask them the significance of the last 10 or presidents and what their major accomplishment(s) were and they probably wouldn't know. etc etc etc

When I was in 7th grade, I took the ACT for a similar talent search program and scored a 21. When I took it my junior year of highschool I got a 27. If I recall, there really isn't much advanced math on the ACT... just some basic geometry is as difficult as it gets. It's definetely a cool feeling getting a decent grade in 7th grade, but don't extrapolate those results into highschool...

Why the hell would you expect that a HS student would be exposed to a differential equation?

That's very good but it's probably a different test. This is not measured in %.

You sure? I was positive it was the same one. At any rate it was a college test.

k.. um, since as a 7th grader, he was never exposed to the trig-type questions that are on the ACT (towards the end of the math section), that's damn good to be getting that score. kinda bummed, he actually beat my math score. i took my test last year (junior year) and got a 24 on the math section. 29 composite thanks to the 35 on the science section. and math was my good subject. sadly my pre-calc teacher the previous semester killed any knowledge of teh math that I once had. damn her and her negative learning. lmao

congrats to the kid.

btw, what the hell IS a differential equation? its not taught in highschool unless its like, Calc II AP or something... i went through pre-calc with the worst teacher at my school (12/17 kids failed, all actually somewhat smart in math since pre-calc isn't a required course, usually its a credit thats just extra...) and never even saw such a thing.

. Why not? We started doing differential equations junior year (and i'm not one of those gifted & talented types either, i'm actually horrible at math).

I didn't know anyone who took the ACT in 7th grade, so I don't know how good that is.

differentiating equations is different from differential equations.

If you never took them, then how would you know?

I'd answer that, but your head would explode and make a mess.

Don't flatter yourself. Why didn't you take the tests? Let me guess, college was "below" you as well?

Agreed. High scores are great and all, but unless you do something with them, who gives a sh!t???

I got a 1290 on the SAT in 7th grade, and a 1570 when it counted. Standardized tests are ridiculously easy. I just which I had done as well on my other tests (93.1 Avg HS, 3.78 GPA College).

PS - I'm just being a pround human being. If a father/mother can be proud of his son/daughter, can't a college student be proud of him/herself?
PPS - I'm sorry that I put male/female in all the gender/gender slashes. I reproduced it below in the PPPS.

no offense but how did you get a 1570 on your SAT when the right word is 'wish' and not 'which' ? And what is pround?

 Good thing the SAT doesn't have spelling!

no chicks for him

Sad but true, sad but true.

He may only be 12-13 but, unless you've lived under a rock the past 5-10 years, kids these days are think they're MUCH older then what they really are.

Poor kid probably gets made fun of, a lot.

He's a fairly athletic and good looking kid. Plus he's got a cute girlfriend who is a brain like him. So he's doing ok.

Nah, they're in seventh grade what does it matter? She'll be scared and run in the next year or so when he hits puberty fully and he tries to sleep with her.

Oh, and don't reply and tell me he sports a full beard too and that puberty hit him at age eight, thanks.
