I dare you go up to a normal high school student and ask them what a differential equation is. I bet they wouldn't even know what subject is belonged in let alone what its suppose to solve.

Congrats to your son . I took that test last year (8th grade), got 98%.
That's very good but it's probably a different test. This is not measured in %.

You got 99% in 7th grade?
Same here. Life makes you stupider as you go through it.

Just shows how bad the american high school education system is these days
Not to ruin your pride or anything but thats not something to brag about. The average high school ACT is probably around what your son got and the average hs student is dumb as a brick these days.
I dare you go up to a normal high school student and ask them what a differential equation is. I bet they wouldn't even know what subject is belonged in let alone what its suppose to solve. Ask them who won the Korean War and they'd probably answer the US which is technically wrong as the war is still on-going. Ask them anything about the Mid-east and you'll probably get a blank stare. Ask them the significance of the last 10 or presidents and what their major accomplishment(s) were and they probably wouldn't know. etc etc etc

You sure? I was positive it was the same one. At any rate it was a college test.

Why the hell would you expect that a HS student would be exposed to a differential equation?

. Why not? We started doing differential equations junior year (and i'm not one of those gifted & talented types either, i'm actually horrible at math).

If you never took them, then how would you know?

I'd answer that, but your head would explode and make a mess.

I got a 1290 on the SAT in 7th grade, and a 1570 when it counted. Standardized tests are ridiculously easy. I just which I had done as well on my other tests (93.1 Avg HS, 3.78 GPA College).
PS - I'm just being a pround human being. If a father/mother can be proud of his son/daughter, can't a college student be proud of him/herself?
PPS - I'm sorry that I put male/female in all the gender/gender slashes. I reproduced it below in the PPPS.

no offense but how did you get a 1570 on your SAT when the right word is 'wish' and not 'which' ? And what is pround?

Sad but true, sad but true.
He may only be 12-13 but, unless you've lived under a rock the past 5-10 years, kids these days are think they're MUCH older then what they really are.
Poor kid probably gets made fun of, a lot.
He's a fairly athletic and good looking kid. Plus he's got a cute girlfriend who is a brain like him. So he's doing ok.
