Steam/Valve is pretty heavy handed when it comes to cheats, even if it's a false positive. I'd be more surprised if they lifted the ban. But good luck :]

Then you were using something. For example, supposedly a recent VAC update added a ban for any account using some type of VAC bypasser (which a lot of MW2 cheaters used). It was awesome reading the Steam forums filled with threads by people who swear they didn't cheat. One of them was epic cause people found evidence with searching the guy's handle with posts on a cheating site.

VAC doesn't have false positives supposedly. It only detects a known cheat or hack modification.

Does it just ban you from the game you were apparently cheating on? Or does it ban you from your account and all your games? I dont remember anyone ever posting about having their steam account banned, seems uncommon. Keep us updated OP.

VAC does not have false positives which is why Valve can be so heavy-handed with the banning policy. VAC also bans after a random delay after a cheat is detected. So we could both install the same cheat today and I could get banned tomorrow while you get banned next month. They do this so cheat developers can't determine if their hack has been detected until it is too late for the users. Finally, because it is on a delay it is possible that you had a hack on your system, tried it, and deleted it. So you might not be hacking now, but if you ever did, even once, in the past, you could get a VAC ban.

For example, your post has you console print out. The only way to enable the console in MW2 is to hack the game. I'm not a rocket science but I think you might not want to try and prove you didn't hack the game by showing the output of an installed hack

Bottom line though is that you're screwed. You're not getting MW2 MP back from Valve if you've gotten a VAC ban.

Ditto, hah. I find the SP to be a good way to pass time. MP is just a nade/snipe fest full of cheaters worse than CS in it's aimbot prime.

Bingo, you have to be some sort of masochist to enjoy MP, unless you're hacking as well.

No, I don't own the game. But I do have Google. And in every case I found where someone printed out a console dump on Steam's forums to show the error, the first question was 'how did you get a console dump?' There seems to be a strong correlation between the console print out in this thread and getting a VAC ban.

Just sayin.

Well that hypothesis is dead then. Console hacks are getting banned a lot these days so it was the first thing I thought of. Most people that installed them felt they were pretty innocuous because they didn't weren't really 'cheating.'

Still, though, I doubt you're going to get your account back. I've never heard of a VAC ban getting listed.

yeah I think Valve/VAC considers a 3rd party console program to be a cheat

thats why there isn't a console in MW2

and in a google search of "IW4 console" it came back with a lot of cheat sites and such

sorry but sucks to be you.

From those steam links it sounds like you'd get banned for using the bolopatch thing with Just Cause 2? Or do they treat SP only games differently?


Edit: They don't ban for bolopatch, but it sounds like people should be very careful when using any sort of mod on a steam game... blech.

Its VAC ban by account. I remember not being able to play with a clan mate in DOD 1.3 as they were caught hacking in CS:S.

Actually it's neither by game or by account. It's by engine. So if you cheat in a Source game you're going to get banned from all Source games. In this case, only MW2 will be affected.

I've always heard it's VAC ban by engine. Since MW2 is the only game on Steam using that engine, it should only affect that game. Obviously for a Source game it would knock out a number of games.

I doubt it's by account as I've definitely seen people with "bans on record" who continue to play other games. But I usually boot them regardless of what game (like when I'm L4D host).

It's not that VAC bans for any mod, it bans for known hacks or mods that do some type of modification of DLLs or exes and such. So things like texture and models changes aren't going to get you banned.

It's not that VAC bans for any mod, it bans for known hacks or mods that do some type of modification of DLLs or exes and such. So things like texture and models changes aren't going to get you banned.

This is slightly OT, but aren't a lot of "wall hacks" just making some textures clear so you can see through them?
