my system build trouble

I'm building with some parts I've collected, including an Epox 8KRAI mobo, XP2000+ cpu, 1gb kingston value ram, and a 160gb sata (western digital) and 80gb ide (wd also).

So when all that is powered on it just hangs in the bios startup screen, it shows the cpu running at 100 FSB, the ram at 166 FSB, and the sata HD isn't recognized. If I unplug the sata HD then the cpu is correct (133 FSB), I can go into bios and set the ram back to 133, and I can successfully load BartPe. I set a jumper to force 150gb/s on the sata and was able to get past bios screen (it listed the HD then) but it was back to the wrong FSB settings. The HD only shows up as 136gb in Bios, and windows can't see it to install to it.

I tried F6 and using the sata raid drivers but its not a raid board and didn't make a difference. So all I can think at this point is a bios flash, currently Epox won't let me download it even though I registered.:disgust: Any ideas?

if your bios doesnt support a hard drive that large, then you must flash it to a newer version, if your mobo doesn't support a 160GB HD, period. then your stuck.

the SATA drivers you need to load when you press that F6 when your booting from the windows cd to install, are not raid, it may say raid or scsi in the windows screen when you show that option, but its for regular sata drivers, which you need to get for that board it will probably just be the regular sata drivers, not the "raid", put it on a FDD and specify during the windows install. did windows accept the drivers for the sata though, after you specified it and picked the right version, then still not see the sata hard drive?

Yes exactly, it lists raid drivers only, I specified them anyway but it still didn't see the drive. I've got a ticket with Epox, hopefully they'll send me the bios soon since I can't download it from them.
