My system won't be, tried swapping all but CPU

I was setting up a Tyan Tiger system many months ago, was having problems with stability during harddrive format and OS install. Eventually the system stopped functioning. I swapped power supplies and still didn't get power, so I assumed it was the motherboard and traded it in for an Epox. Now this board gets power, but it won't boot. The Epox board has a digital display for error codes, it seemed to hand on the post to memory. So I got different RAM for it, still the same thing. So I swapped out an older AGP card I had, same thing. The only thing I have left to do is get another CPU, but I've already spent a lot of money on this system and if that doesn't work, then I'm going to break down into a chaotic mess of tears and rage.

It's an Athlon MP 1200, my experience with some Intel boards is that if the processor is dead than most likely the system won't try to power - perhaps this board is a bit more versatile. Is it a safe bet that at this point my CPU is the culprit?

Oops, the topic is supposed to read "my system won't *boot*". I guess "my system won't be" is the same thing only in a more profound cosmic meta-physical quasi-spiritual kind of way.

Try to pressdown your memory and AGP card a little more, sometimes they look to be seated properly but ain't.
If that doesn't work take out the CPU and check it for "chippsand cracks".

- make sure you don't have any metal of the case touching the board (shorting it out)
- you might try clearing your cmos. Make sure you unplug the power supply before doing this, or you might zap something.
- have you tried putting the RAM in different slots on the motherboard? Sometimes it works, crazy as it sounds.

Yep, I've tried all that. It's a mystery... I guess it really has to be the CPU then...

I just wish I knew someone else running a Socket A system.
