I have nothing better to do at the moment, and this idea just occurred to me.
Aright, I think we can all here agree that at this moment MTV promotes most of the ?popular? music. They try to follow trends and play artists who they believe will make the most impact (and money for them). Now, its no secret that 99% of this is absolutely crap, especially today?s R&B and Rap?
I myself listen and play Rock, Blues, Grunge mostly old school stuff, but I have much respect for real artists, the beginning rap scene, and later on people like 2pac, who actually had something to say. I was watching one of the new rap videos (can?t remember who it was, but not famous yet) the other day, and I just started laughing, I mean those guys truly make fun of themselves? Basically the whole song was like:
?Me geezed up riddin? my escalade, cant be late, got bitchaz everywherez?, chilling my million dolla? cribz?, my golden rimz?, Twenty Fourths? nothing else will do, bitchez? on my neckz?, my escalade with those 24?th, bum bum, bling bling, sunshinez escalade, bling bling, golden homiez?, we do it up here?z, christale drinkin? honeyz, escalade honeyz? getting late, got a wheelz? which goes ?peep peep?, spinning golden dimondz, playz playez everyhwre, me chillin? with my golden chicz, on top of my escalade, chillin? my shoryz? homeboyz?, bitches on top of my escaladez???
and basically the whole song was about his bitches, escalade (don?t rappers know other cars exist exept Escalade and Bentley?) and drinking chrystale in his million dollar house? and the dude was so friggin ugly, and the whole video just showed 4 ugly clicks, and an escalade with 24? golden rims? I mean before raps had some content, but now its basically posing and commercial bull$hit?
Now here is my theory:
Rap, and pop will go through this phase, maybe a few more years and then this will stop. This will basically be like the 80?s for metal bands?. Everyone who looks at it today just laughs and all the 80?s crap bands (Poison, Cinderella, White Snake, even Motley Crue, etc) are afraid to show their face on the street. People are getting tired of all of this already, but ya know all the 12 year old girls gotta have their little boy bands. Care to share your thoughts?
