Ok, some details are a little sketchy since this was over a week ago.
  • We flew non-stop Cleveland to London on a Continental 757 on the 12th. It's amazing how many people Continental jams on those planes.
  • 13th went to Windsor Castle. Very impressive, the town is very nice too. Highly recommended. Also took a bus tour around London.
  • 14th went to Harrods in the morning. Nice fancy store, but nothing special. Then went to the RAF Museum in the afternoon. Great museum (I can't believe the tube goes that far out of town), though the USAF Museum is better.
  • 15th went to Portsmouth. Saw Arundel Castle from the train. It looks very impressive and I would like to visit it sometime. Portsmouth was nice, though I wish they had some modern ships to tour through.
  • 16th went to Bath. I like high-speed trains. Bath is cool, especially the baths. Took a bus tour around the city, and it was worth it.
  • 17th flew British Airways 737 to Munich, then grabbed a train to Garmisch.
  • 18th met up with a German couple, hiked the gorge, hiked another three hours up the mountain, then took a cable car back down to town. I had a great time hiking, and the scenery was amazing.
  • 19th just stayed around town, went shopping, had a nice time.
  • 20th back to Munich. Went to the Deutch (sp?) Museum. Its amazing how huge the place is, and I really liked it.
  • 21th bored with Munich (and most stores closed on Sunday), so back to Garmisch for the day. We took the cog railroad to the top of the highest mountain in Germany (Zugzpitz?), walked around a while, and then took the cable car back down.
  • 22nd flew back to London from Munich in a sweet little British Airways Embraer 145. Walked around Hyde Park some in the evening.
  • 23rd went to the Tower of London, then walked around Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Trafalger Square, ate in the Cafe in the Crypt, walked up to Leicester Square, took the tube to Covent Garden (god was that stupid and you Londoners should know why. ), shopped there for a while, managed to see the Queen going to the opera (saw her from under 100 feet away), and finally went back to walk around Hyde Park some more. Great day, and I recommend everything we did.
  • 24th flew back to Cleveland on the tiny 757.

Overall I really liked the trip. It's one of the top two vacations I've had (Washington D.C. was good too).

Some general comments:
  • The Underground in London is awesome. It's so easy to get whereever you want to go.
  • British toilets are strange.
  • British TV is amazingly bad. Bird watching on prime time would not last long in the U.S.
  • Food was quite good overall, especially at this little restaurant we found in Garmisch.
  • Who the heck lives on that street just west of Hyde Park????
  • Trains are very, very cool, and we need a much improved public transportation system in the U.S.
  • How is Nutella so good? Any why does it have to be so expensive back home here?
  • Why isn't Multivitamin juice sold in the U.S.?
  • It's amazing how much thinner people are in Europe than the U.S.
  • I think that's all.

Sounds like you had a great time!

I'm glad you enjoyed our little country (England)! IIRC, Covent Garden is where you go round in circles for what seems like a mile, right!?

One thing that intrigues me...."British toilets are stange"....huh!? Explain please!

Next time you come to the UK (London) be sure to have some time to meet up with your UK TeAm mates!

Sounds like a good time. I toured around Europe for a month once but never made it to the UK. I really wished we could have hit Scotland, sounds like a great place to go. One thing I noticed while I was there is that the beds are so damn small. And they hardly had any thick covers. Other than that the trains were great for getting places. Much better then the US and busses. I would love to go back some time when I wasn't working. Be nice to hit London and grab a pint in the pub

Sounds like a great trip!! While in Bath did you take the trip to Stonehenge? I would assume no since you didn't mention it.

Glad you had a nice time Sukhoi.

TBH you should remember that our towns dont really cater for the car as much as they need to, so many people are forced to use the Public Services - which dont have the capacity to deal with all those who dont risk using cars... there is much to improve upon.

Bath is a cool place - my grandparents live nearby.

What is strange about UK toilets?

Nope, didn't go to Stonehenge. We have heard from several people that it's currently a waste of time because of the distance they are keeping people away from it.

I'm glad you enjoyed our little country (England)! IIRC, Covent Garden is where you go round in circles for what seems like a mile, right!?

Maybe you go around in circles there, but I didn't. Covent Garden is the area near the Opera House with all the shopping and restaurants.

I forgot about the beds...I don't like that single comforter they give you in Germany. It's horrible in the summer because it's too hot to use, but there's nothing else to put over you.

As for the toilets in England, why are they so hard to use? Here in the U.S. you just push down the handle and it flushes. With English toilets I had to push the handle down real fast and then hold it down for a few seconds or the toilet would never flush. Stupid design.

Are you are talking about the 2 stage flush tiolet ,its made to save water ,a quick press of the lever gives a short blast if..........you haven't done much ,the long flush if you have!

British TV is amazingly bad. Bird watching on prime time would not last long in the U.S

You say that with some of the cr** you have on your TV!? ,lol
Sometimes it does suck though

It's amazing how much thinner people are in Europe than the U.S

Oh dear! ,how sad! ,I knew on average this was the case but I didn't know it was that obvious!:Q ,you guys need to slim & stop eating so much junk food

Glad you had a goodtime anyway

We are not fat, we are pleasantly plump! hehe
It's that damn fast food I tell ya! Damn them for not telling me that I would get fat if I only ate Whoppers and Big Macs!:|
Maybe I will try to get in on that lawsuit! In case you didn't know, I guess the same groupe that sued the tobacco industry on behalf of all the smokers who did not know that smoke was bad, are suing the fast food industry for making people fat against their knowledge.

Well add that one to the list. Many Americans are STUPID!

I'm getting ready for my third trip to Europe, but at this time I will no stop by London ( I was there 4 years ago and love it), now we are going to Germany (third time) and Italy (first time) to celebrate our 25th anniversary, and visit my sister in love that she lives near Nuremberg, and from there we are planning to go to Stugart and the Black Forest.
I wish that we can have the same kind of style of live as they (europeans) have, less use of car, more walking, better food (or at least more natural), less stress, and etc, etc, etc.
I did a big move already in my life (coming from my country, Argentina), and now that my kids are going to college, I'm too old to make another one. But I'm lucky enough to have family and friends over there, so I can go any time that my budget allows me.

I'm glad for you Sukhoi that you were able to make that nice trip, and I hope that you are looking forward for more.

Best regards

Eltano

Oh, I didn't realize you were talking about the tube station. Any tube station that isn't cut-and-cover is going to have the lifts with the long spiral staircase next to them.

The weight difference is very noticeable...as soon as I got off the plane in London I noticed how much thinner
everyone was.

Wow, a trip to England and to Germany, and not a single mention of beer. British Ales and Stouts, German Lagers. Where's the info?

When I go to France next year, I'll be sure to let you know about the wines. (and beers as found).
