So it's time to upgrade again... Heading for a i7 (from a Q6600).

So far I've decided a few parts, but those I need help with are underscored (if you have better options, please share them). I'm trying to stick to the price of parts that I've already mentioned...

Here's what i got so far..

Case - Lian Li PC-7110A
Mobo - Asus Rampage II Extreme
CPU - Intel i7 920
CPU-Cooler - Noctua SE1366
RAM - Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600MHz 6GB
GFX - nvidia GFX 260 (Core 216) , so far been looking at EVGA and XFX (does the card maker even matter?
PSU - Thermaltake W0116RU 750 w/modular cables (Will it be enough? - Want modular cables. Will also OC the cpu and needs SLI / CrossFire in the future).

Appreciate any help..

Are you gaming on the same Samsung 940BF in your sig? If so, GTX 260 is complete & utter overkill. The GTS in your sig should handle most everything smoothly at that resolution.

I would just reuse the 620HX you've already got, that's plenty of power for even a GTX 295.

Unless you're building from scratch, then grab a second 620HX. And look at the 4850 for gaming on that 19" LCD.

Thx for the reply.

I'm buying a COMPLETELY new rig. So I'll sell my current one. Everything except the LCD, but that will be upgraded later on.

Is the 620HX enough for example 2xGTX 260 ? That's why I was considering the thermaltake 750...

Corsair 620HX is a more "solid" PSU than the Thermaltake. Corsair models are usually underrated (ie - they can crank out more power than the sticker on the side claims) while many of the off-brands - like Thermaltake - sometimes cannot even hit their stated limits.

And, to answer your question - yes, the Corsair can handle SLI GTX 260 (linky). Peak power draw for 2xGTX 260/216 on an overclocked i7 system was measured there at just under 500W.

Depending on the deal you're getting on the GTX 260, you might actually consider the GTX 295 instead. The GTX 295 is like a hybrid GTX 260/280 SLI on one card. It has the clockspeed of the GTX 260 (easily dealt with) and the shaders of the GTX 280 (full 240 per core) so it's going to have more muscle than two GTX 260s in true SLI. Plus the GTX 295 will pull less power than the GTX 260 setup.

Thx for the tips.

I went for the thermaltake anyway, I read alot of reviews from customers and they weren't disappointed. I would have gone with the Corsair 750TX but it didn't have modular cables. Anyhow, gotta try something new once in a while

As of the 260, I went for that one as well. Since i could not afford any other on the gfx part. It would be very likely that I can afford another 260 in the future as well, rather than another 295 (if i would need crossfire later on). Although one 295 would be sufficent, but it's still too expensive for me.
