My Vacation in Vietnam ***PICS***

i did thailand, singapore, and malaysia for 3 weeks for about $4000 US for 2 people.

How the hell did you guys got such a good deal?

Air fares for one person cost me more than haft of that, and then the hotels are so freaking expensive in Vietnam. Mind you I was over there for 3 months.

Yea I thought flights were about 2k. But I am on th east coast so maybe that is why?

Hotels I thought were cheaper, depending on what you want.

I know quite a few Vietnam Vets who've gone back seeking "closure."

Most came back with good reports, but some said they were followed everywhere.

AFAIC, I didn't leave anything there that I want back, so even though my original impression was that it was a beautiful country underneath all the war damage, I don't think I could ever go back. Just too many unpleasant memories for me.

round trip to singapore is ~$1400 per person right now.

i did get free room in singapore from my father's boss. everywhere else we stayed we paid for. kuala lumpur was the most expensive. thailand was dirt cheap, got to phuket just after the monsoon but before the peak season and paid $20 a night or something for a decent place. air asia tickets were dirt cheap, and if you're flying on the malaysian branch you're in brand new A320s. the thai was some dirty 737-200s.

100% sales tax on cars is nuts. Why would you even buy a car there, let alone a BMW? Could buy a car on ebay and have it delivered for less than $2,000 probably.

When is the best time of year to visit anyhow ?

I say the Lunar new year (Feb 12), Everyone take off at least 2 weeks to celebrate in Vietnam.

The streets at night are packed and it's traffic like you never saw before.

How can you vacation over there for a measly 2.5K?

The last time I was in Vietnam/Thailand it cost me 12K CAD.

$1500 plane ticket.

Considering the fact that the average person makes $200 a month in Vietnam
$1000 for vacationing is plenty. A hotel at the beach cost $25-30 a night. It's cheaper elsewhere & off holiday season.

There are 2 metal garage doors that slide down and completely sealed the house at night.

Take a look at the very first pic, see that brown thing above the glass door? that's the metal garage door that slides down at night.

Flight prices is very different from month to month & depend on what day you're going.

Expedia.com charged me $2060 round trip for 2 persons (that's including taxes!)

If i select a day earlier, it would have cost me $3500. Sometimes choosing different dates make a huge difference.

There's no way around the car prices, i've asked. Even if you buy a $1k car and ship it there, they'll charge you the going rate of how much the car would go for and tax you on that.

Like i Said, there are extremely rich & extremely poor people in vietnam. I saw a BENTLEY driving around my area. A freaking BENTLEY. A $400k car in the US and is actually $800k US DOLLARS in vietnam.

Oh and in Vietnam, you're paying it in cash. No such thing as credit financing.

We went to Vietnam for the lunar new year and it is a blast. The last time I was there was 10 years ago and so many things have changed. My whole family went back together (mom/dad/uncle/girlfriend) to visit my grandmother & aunt/uncles. Big family reunion :awe:

Thanks. I guess that's what people do when they put 100% tax on cars...everyone gets motorcycles - Or do they tax those pretty high too? I guess they'd just be easier to get around on?
