Because I read that no one ever starts a thread about how great their Vista runs, and I'm kind of tired of the Vista bashing when XP has just as much problems if not more.

Personally I've had x64 running since release of SP1 and I haven't had any trouble at all. Anyone else?

Likewise. Welcome to the silent majority.

I can't wait for Windows 7. the UI improvements look pretty nice.

Ditto! I really do look forward to Windows 7 though. The UI enhancements look awesome.

Also, I installed the latest betas of the live suite softwares. I'm so happy I can finally upload to Google Picasaweb using Photo Gallery (which I feel is superior to Picasa).

I'll add my support

Been running Vista since the release candidates, couldnt imagine going back to XP myself

Vista should be lauded for pulling the lifesupport plug of the floppy drive in allowing the use of flash drives during installation

little things like that make me cringe when having to deal with an xp box these days

I have also used Vista x64 since the release of SP1. Before that this OS was pretty unusable for me, but now I never wouldnt change it back to XP.

I have three machines running Vista 64. All of them work great too. One is a new test PC, one is my workstation which has been running it since December last year, and my Media center which has been running it since Vista's release. I held off on my workstation simply because there weren't drivers available for certain key parts like my wireless N board. But, that changed last year and It's been great since then.

I've used XP until about 1 month ago, when I decided to install Vista64. At first I regretted the decision because I was having mouse issues. It resolved itself and now I absolutely love it.

One question though, is it normal that upon boot I only have 2/4 gigs free? I assume it's caching frequently used programs, which I'm fine with. I see no slowdown what so ever and everything just feels lightning quick. I'll have netbeans, photoshop, lightroom, firefox with 20+ tabs, and 3 microsoft word documents open, and then boot up fallout3 and play with no slowdown what so ever. And make computer isn't anything special, e7200, 4 gigs pc6400, 9600GT.

+1 on positive Vista support. Have been running Vista for well over a year now, just moved up to 64 bit a month or two ago. The only major issues I ever encountered were pre-SP1 and driver based which was a vendor issue not a microsoft or an OS issue. Tons of negative FUD out there on Vista, it's nice to see a positive thread here for once.

Nothing but a positive experience for me as well. Been using Vista since beta and moved to Vista x64 when I acquired a retail copy of Vista Ultimate from an acquaintance at MS. Can't pay me enough to go back to XP. (Well, you probably could find an amount I'd install XP for, but I would do so grudgingly).

Yep, that's just superfetch doing its thing. You'll see it change memory usage throughout the day. In the mornings and early afternoons my system uses significantly more for superfetch than it does in the evening after I am done working, playing games etc.

I run XP at work, and Vista at home. I think Vista is okay, but GOOD LORD I *HATE* what they've done with Windows Explorer and general navigation of the file system.

Does anyone know a way to make Vista have an identical-to-XP or close-enough Windows Explorer?

I guess everything is relative to personal preference, a friend of mine was recenly complaining cause vista file explorer doesnt have an "up folder" button like XP, to which I responded:

"with the brread crumbs you just click on the folder name you want so that button would be redundant"

to which he replied "I know but I just liked the up folder button"

to adress your question, I'm not aware of anything to alter vista file explorer to make it XP like

I like the breadcrumbs...but I love the Columns implementation in OSX and Dolphin (KDE4)

I yanked out my Creative sound card recently and am much happier with how sound is now working. The improvements in the sound stack make add in sound cards obsolete to all but a few audiophiles and gamers who want EAX effects.

Been using vista x64 since release and its been working great.
Haven't had any issues besides a few programs. (also BF2142 had a memory leak, but that's nothing new)
The other annoying thing was that it took 3 prompts to rename a file before SP1.

I've used Vista x64 for 11 months now and I've pretty much ditched it at this point...

...I'm all about Windows 7 now.

Edit: Vista x64 did rock while it lasted though.

I like Vista x64 too. Coming from a background of using WinXP and Win2000 as a low-rights user at all times, Vista is a welcome improvement, designed to make the LUA approach workable for average mortals.

Got Vista Ultimate x64 the day it was released, Got vista Home Premium the day it was released. Haven't had a bit of trouble ever since. I went to a tech seminar here in Minneapolis and received Vista ultimate 32 bit as I was leaving. Pretty cool huh?

Vista32 for 9 months, and Vista64 for 12 months. I haven't had any problems worth mentioning, and find it to be the best Windows yet.
