Hello all.
I've just made the switch the Vista Ultimate 64 just this past weekend. I switched for the extended memory support and to finally game with DX-10. I was some-what reluctant to leave XP MCE 2005 since it was very good to me and due to the fact that I knew it so well.
It only took a little time with Vista 64 to forget all about XP! Ultimate is so slick, so stable and so fast. And I simply can't get over how beautiful the UI looks! DreamScene is a wonderful feature...and it's just a freakin' desktop! I like how optimized versions of everyday programs like Explorer have a shine and polish to them as well. The real issue I think most users have when they switch is the "layout" of things. But once you learn where and how to look for things and start customizing Vista for how you want it to look and work....XP isn't even playing the same game!
Stability has been top notch. I had some minor issues at first, but it was due to my o/c'ing my rig, not with Vista. No problems finding drivers, no problems installing applications or games. Everything works, everything runs. It's also super secure; if you find it too insrusive, you can ease it back as much as you need to.
It is a BIG OS, though. It likes a lot of resources as well. It's unfortunate that most people simply don't have the kind of rig that will be able to run Ultimate x64 effectively. However, if your rig has the stones, Ultimate 64 is the way to go!
