My voodoo 3000 2k is doing 3dmark2k at 215mz on the graphics memory clock speed!

I was swapping things around yesterday to make up a third box then put a few things back in my #2 box and thought I'd work up my little voodoo card with the new drivers and the overclock program.

It's in a 533@896 (112mz)on an aopen ax6bc bx board with 128 mb of infineon ram. I kept running 3dmark2k till it froze up at 220mz. I then backed it back to 215mz and ran it again. It scores 3674 at 16 bit triple buffer 1024x768. Backed it off to 210mz and it scores over 3700 5 times in a row.

I'm just amazed at this cheap little card and wonder if this is fairly common with it since it defaults to only 143 and I don't think the more expensive voodoos go over 180?

ummm if you were using 220Mhz FSB that would put your celeron 533 running at 1760Mhz, i dont think thats possible, and you would need 5.5ns or 5ns ram to get it that high.

not 220 on the mb, 220mz for the video card memory in the overclocking program

stock is 143, I ran multiple 3dmarks and it failed at 215 but ran 5 in a row at 210mz

Yea, that's a little high - Are you using powerstrip to overclock?

I have one at 170MHz and it has 6ns ram. 7ns is normal for the 2000

it's got a global win video card cooler, and some other fans. I've been looping 3dmark2k at 210mz which seems to be the most stable. I reset the clock then reboot and the scores seem to reflect the increase as I worked up from 180mz.

I'm going to loop it tonite and see how it goes. The ambient is quite cool as well.

That's great to hear, blackhawk! I just put a V3 2000 AGP in a box yesterday and max'ed out Gary Peterson's V3 Overclocking Tool(200MHz), and I plan on removing it and installing PowerStrip. I'm benching using the Timedemo 1 in UT, with zero artifacts so far. For cooling, I threw a 486 fan I had laying around on it, as well as blowing a Sunon 80mm fan and a pair of Gamma's at it, so that it won't heat up the CPU too much. I'll be going for 220MHz on the V3.:Q Probably not possible, but what the hey, right?

I'm using powerstrip and it still works fine.

I played some UT and the kids put on NBAlive and played it as well as looping 3dmark2k in between. It musta heard I might be selling it!
I'll check the ram as I take it in and out quite a bit.

Hmmm... Never heard of a 2000 hitting that speed. The only one I've heard of getting that high was a 3500, which runs at 183 stock anyway.

Looped 3dmark2k all nite no problem.

Foolishly thought I should move this over to the main system (has viper 770 plain at 160/170) and it didn't work nearly as well so moved it back to the bx board.

Still running at 210 and I think I'll go up in imz increments tonite.

freezes eventually at 212mz but runs forever at 210mz

I put it down to 143 and ran a benchmark then back to 210 and score went from 2600 to 3400ish so overclocking tool is working

touched heatsink below fan and it was only warm but ambient is only 18c

anyone tell me about the ram markings?

I think thats 6ns, which means it should be running at 166MHz. Thats amazing if you got it going at 210.

Those are great numbers...assuming they're 3DMark2000 ones. I'm getting 3065 with my V3 3000 at 180MHz with a C566@850MHz, 256MB memory.

I now get 3460 to 3490 with my 533@896, v32k@210mz and 128 cas2 ram.
That's at default benchmark.
I was getting 3700 give or take 20 before moving the card. Just took it out again to set up another box then I'll put it back and see what it does.

Makes me kind of pissed I gave my brother a Velocity 100 that had 5.5 ns ram. My other velocity 100 is probably 6, but no matter.. that's still not bad at all.

I haven't checked my V3 3000 but I've clocked it to 183 without it even flinching and have gone to 190 something but on my old k6-2 it wasn't even being utilized.

I do have an 80mm slimfan strapped to the V3 heatsink...but it won't do more than 180+MHz, might be the memory that's holding me back. Its Hyundai 6ns

frankly, the scores don't mean much, since its just a synthetic benchmark based on an engine for a game that hasn't shipped yet. you shouldn't base your purchase on this benchmark at all.

btw, blackhawk, according to Hyundai's naming convention, the HY57V1616100 is a 16Mx16, 4K refresh SDRAM that runs at 3.3V.
0003A TC-6 indicates a 400mil TSOP II package and the memory is rated at 6ns.
