My whole morning, derailed . . .

I usually stop at Paradise Bakery after my morning training runs. I get the exact same thing every time, a breakfast croissant sandwich, a yogurt parfait, a large coffee, and two peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. Comes up to 14.42. They know me by name and start prepping it as soon as I walk in the door. Often, I can enter the building, wait in line behind several other people, pay and get my food immediately, while other people are still waiting.

Last night, their espresso machine exploded. Fire suppression system kicked in and doused the flames, but the smoke still did a number on the interior and there was several inches of water on the floor when the fire department arrived.

They're not opening today.

Don't get me wrong, I really don't care how much you spend on your breakfast in a given year. But it's a good idea to think about where your money is going. I know people who spend over $1,000 a month dining out and they don't max out their 401(k)'s.

It's all about perspective, that's what I'm offering.

I max out my 401k, as well route a significant amount of money to savings for my personal investments and 'booze/vacation/computer/gadget fund'. I know where my money goes and I meet all my current financial obligations.

It really does suck to be them. I could smell the burnt electronics at the door very strongly, definitely wouldn't want to be inside the building cleaning it up.
