be care on your cheat day. I was 5-6 weeks in, on a not-nearly-as-strict-as-yours paleo/primal/grain-free eating plan, when I had some fried chicken while on vacation. It was might tasty (something I missed), but then had a belly-ache for 3-4 hours after. Must've been the overload of breading+flour+bad oils.

Congrats on your progress and good luck.

believe me, i'm aware of the awful feelings subsequent to cheating. i expect to feel bloated, gassy, groggy and crampy for at least 24 hours. if it's just plain awful, that will hopefully help me stay committed to not doing that again. if it's manageable, then i'll just continue on 30 days on, 1 day off.

another update. i got my blood work results and they are crazy:

total cholesterol: 337
LDL: 252
HDL: 64

i was totally not expecting my numbers to go UP especially with this diet. is it possible that the increase in the fish oils i was taking might be responsible?

Wow, after losing all that weight? I would get in checked again, maybe a lab error? fish oils should bring it down and make your HDL skyrocket.

i think i literally said "WOW, REALLY?!" when i was on the phone with my doc. i think i then said that doesn't make any sense.

he said that it must just be a genetic predisposition that i just make a lot of cholesterol and that he wants me to continue with my diet and fitness routine but he also wants to put me on a statin. my father and his sister both have high cholesterol.

he did mention that there was some more refined test he could do to break down the numbers and possibly determine if the markers are actually indicative of a problem or are within a good range.

did he give you any info on he amount of triglycerides? My cholesterol has always been high from a very young age and it was the Tri's that were really high. But fish oil helped me big time got me down to 187 from a 260+.

unfortunately, he only broke down the total into hdl and ldl. i could probably ask for that info when i call him back to let him know what, if any, statin my father was on.

No, fish oils don't typically do that. As I mentioned earlier, you eat a lot of meat/saturated fat. You continued to do so during the diet (a lot of dark meat chicken, steak). Eat leaner meats, but also consider maybe getting on a statin. You exercise, you eat fairly well, but it's still fairly high. It does seem you may have a genetic predisposition to having high cholesterol. In this case, medication may be appropriate.

i don't disagree that i eat a significant amount of fat but before august i was eating 3 strips of bacon and a sausage patty with 3 fried eggs for breakfast. starting in august i was eating egg white omelets with veggies and a small amount of ham (relatively speaking). instead of ground beef and lots of red meat during lunch, i started eating rotisserie chicken everyday and bison burger on occasion. before august i was eating a lot of fried foods on the weekends but since august i stopped having anything fried. so what i don't understand is that while i was definitely still eating fatty meats, certainly, i must have been eating a lot less fat than before august, so how could my numbers go up that dramatically? it just seems crazy.

anyway, my doc started me on vytorin last friday (since my father tolerated that one well) and we have another followup scheduled in december so we'll see how my number do at that time.
